RosterWatch Week 17 Matchup Tool

alex bylineWelcome back.

This is a proprietary weekly tool provided by RosterWatch for our PRO community.

It is designed to be a decision-making tool for gauging the defensive opponents your fantasy players face. If you are new to this, our time-tested and most popular flagship in-season tool, the instructions for use couldn’t be simpler, and can be found below.

RW PRO users can download the matchup tool (or access the online tool for use) in the downloads section of their profile by clicking HERE.

DO NOT RELY ON “FANTASY POINTS AGAINST” as your primary indicator for player matchups ever again. It is a flawed metric, as you’ll see, which will cause you heartache and struggle.

The rankings represented here are derived via a proprietary algorithm which takes into account not only standard “fantasy points against” metrics, but also (and most importantly) weighted averages and medians of separate individual player and defensive-unit scouting grades for members of the 2019 unit that will be run-stopping, pass-rushing, or covering against the position in question, along with other analytic trends including projected game-script, game-flow, Vegas indicators, volume of total snaps and much, much, more.

INSTRUCTIONS:

To use the tool, think about your fantasy player.

Let’s say you own Saints RB Alvin Kamara, and would like to see how he matches up against the defense he faces this week.

First, look down the list and find the Saints (Kamara’s team). You will see that the Saints’ opponent (OPP) is the Panthers in Week 17, and there are four color-coded cells in the horizontal columns marked “OPP vs. QBs,” “OPP vs. RBs,” “OPP vs. WRs” and “OPP vs. TEs.”

These are the OPPONENT’S (in this case the Panthers’) OFFICIAL ROSTERWATCH MATCHUP RANKINGS AGAINST THESE GIVEN POSITIONS FOR THE WEEK.

They are not the rankings for the Saints, but rather, for the OPPONENT THEY FACE IN THIS GIVEN WEEK (the Panthers). In the “OPP vs. RBs” cell for the Saints, you’ll notice a big, blue ‘No. 1’. This means Kamara faces our best possible matchup for opposing RBs in Week 17 (the PANTHERS). This is a great indicator for owners of Kamara and it is a positive one for those thinking of rostering him in DFS contests.

Repeat the same process for other players on your roster as you are trying to decide which players to start and which to sit in season-long leagues. Also use it to identify which upside-plays to roster in DFS contests based on matchup.

With the launch of the online tool, you can now sort by any column: vegas line, over/under, and matchup ranks vs. each position for easy reference. The Vegas lines are updated hourly for your reference and research. Please note that matchup rankings can shift through the week with line and O/U movements as well as injury news.

“1″ is the best (easiest) matchup, “32″ is the worst (toughest).

Well… Made it to 2 out of 3 championships but could not overcome the buzzsaws I ran up against! Anyways I got invited to play in a 5/6 team playoff league. I have never been in one. Any quick strategies or thoughts? Full point ppr as well as yardage bonuses etc. Thanks again for another great season!!!!

    1. Thank you Kwillee, 2/3 Championship Appearances- we’ll call that a good season! Most importantly, hope it was a fun one. Sounds like you probably made out with a little cash too just in time for holidays!

Use the Trashman’s playoff rankings as an initial guide for that format.

Where are the DFS plays? Don’t they usually come out by now?

  3. My standard scoring league changed playoffs to include weeks 14 & 15 in semi-finals and weeks 16 & 17 in finals (ugh!). Thanks to RosterWatch Nation’s tools and advice, I’m in the finals. I’m behind my opponent by 3.0 points and have concerns over week 17 resting players and injuries. I need some advice on a few positions.

    My team is:
QB LJackson (sitting), Brees (concerned he’ll be taken out for 1-2 quarters), Daniel Jones
RB DHenry, AJones, LFournette (neck injury-questionable), MBoone & AMattison
WR DHopkins (did not practice due to illness), DAdams, BPerriman & DJChark
    TE DGoedert & THigbee
    DST 49’ers & Falcons
K dropped for Goedert & will drop a MIN RB to get one

This sux deciding a championship in week 17!

    1. If Fournette and/or Hopkins is out, who do I play in RB/WR and Flex? I’m considering Perriman, Chark and/or my 2nd TE. Agree?

    2. My opponent has QBs Mayfield & Dalton. Do I play it safe with DJones or play Brees and hope he’s in most of the game?

    3. If I sit one of my TE’s, is it Higbee with the update that Ertz is out?

    4. DST is killing me post season. I can pick up the Rams or Broncos or play SF or Atlanta with their matchup. I’m leaning SF or Atlanta but would like your advice.

Sorry for all of the questions but appears my leagues the only one playing this final week. Thanks again for everything, especially the responses from the three of you AND other RWN members!
