This is a proprietary weekly tool provided by RosterWatch for our PRO community.

It is designed to be a decision-making tool for gauging the defensive opponents your fantasy players face. If you are new to this, our time-tested and most popular flagship in-season tool, the instructions for use couldn’t be simpler, and can be found below.

DO NOT RELY ON “FANTASY POINTS AGAINST” as your primary indicator for player matchups ever again. It is a flawed metric, as you’ll see, which will cause you heartache and struggle.

The rankings represented here are derived via a proprietary algorithm which takes into account not only standard “fantasy points against” metrics, but also (and most importantly) weighted averages and medians of separate individual player and defensive-unit scouting grades for members of the 2019 unit that will be run-stopping, pass-rushing, or covering against the position in question, along with other analytic trends including projected game-script, game-flow, Vegas indicators, volume of total snaps and much, much, more.

INSTRUCTIONS:

To use the tool, think about your fantasy player.

Let’s say you own Patriots RB Sony Michel, and would like to see how he matches up against the defense he faces this week.

First, look down the list and find the Patriots (Michel’s team). You will see that the Pats’ opponent (OPP) is the Dolphins in Week 2, and there are four color-coded cells in the horizontal columns marked “OPP vs. QBs,” “OPP vs. RBs,” “OPP vs. WRs” and “OPP vs. TEs.”

These are the OPPONENT’S (in this case the Dolphins’) OFFICIAL ROSTERWATCH MATCHUP RANKINGS AGAINST THESE GIVEN POSITIONS.

They are not the rankings for the PATS, but rather, for the OPPONENT THEY FACE IN THIS GIVEN WEEK (the DOLPHINS). In the “OPP vs. RBs” cell for the Patriots, you’ll notice a big, blue ‘No. 1’. This means Michel faces our best possible matchup for opposing RBs in Week 1 (the Dolphins). This is a great indicator for owners of Sony Michel, and is a positive one for those thinking of rostering any of the Pats runners in DFS contests.

Repeat the same process for other players on your roster as you are trying to decide which players to start and which to sit in season-long leagues. Also use it to identify which upside-plays to roster in DFS contests based on matchup.

With the launch of the online tool, you can now sort by any column: vegas line, over/under, and matchup ranks vs. each position for easy reference. The Vegas lines are updated hourly for your reference and research.

“1″ is the best (easiest) matchup, “32″ is the worst (toughest).

      Your WR are fine – continue to matchup play and improve through waivers. Picking up Waller is still a good idea. If you can do that first- then think about trading Kittle for a WR.

        Thanks Byron. I dropped AMiller for Andrews after I posted the question and just picked up John Ross by dropping HHenry…assumed that was your intent (to swap out TE Henry with Andrews). Unfortunately, I’d have to drop CSamuel or Guice to grab Fant to carry 2 TEs and don’t think that’s a good idea. However, let me know if you think it’s best to grab Fant (and just know Waller and Hockenson had already been grabbed off waivers) and probably release Guice.

      No don’t drop Samuel, yet if you don’t have to. Try to trade a couple of guys for one slightly better guy in return if you can to clear a roster spot for more pick ups.

    0.5 PPR, auction keeper league

    Was offered Watkins ($7, likely to be $12 next year) and Breida ($2, $5) for my Melvin Gordon ($23, $29) and Metcalf ($1, $4).

    I have CMC, Mack, Kerryon and McCoy as my RB’s, plus Julio, JuJu, DJ Moore and MVS as my WR’s along with the two in the trade. Am I crazy not to say yes to this? Don’t want to lose out on Gordon’s value if he comes back, since I can stomach having him in my IR all season.

    So I used the cheat sheet in my draft. Love my team, but when it came to WRs I have both Woods and Cook. I can only play 2 receivers. My other 3 WRs on my bench are A.J. Green, Sutton, and John Buffalo Brown.

    I saw Engram at tight end and his low ownership projection and know his volume should be pretty good right now. I have a lot of respect for McDermott and how he brings top pass defense to every team he goes to even if he gets someone else’s personnel. Looking at the matchup sheet you reflect that with the Giants matchup versus the Bills including the Tight End position. Looking at box scores from last year I realized that none of the teams the Bills played had top 3 tight ends. And for a lot of the tight ends they caught most if not all of the targets. Without giving up trade secrets could you let me know if the matchup tool takes into accounts team matchups too?

      the matchup tool is based on personnel, not as much fantasy points allowed and the FPA portion is adjusted for SOS against the position. If you like Engram, roll with him. Matchups are just to be used as tie breakers.
