Senior Bowl Spotlight: Braxton Miller, WR Ohio State
Braxton Miller,WR Ohio State
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 215 lbs
40 yard dash: sub 4.40 (unofficial)
NFL Comparison: Percy Harvin/Denard Robinson
Scouting Notes: It says something special about a player whenever they’re able to transition from Heisman-considered QB on one of college football’s most storied teams to WR without so much as a hitch, and that’s what Braxton Miller did at Ohio State. Hindered by a shoulder injury that compromised his throwing velocity and facing stiff competition, Miller made the move with the endorsement of Urban Meyer, who also believes he’ll post a sub 4.40 forty at the Combine this year. Despite not having a catch until the 2015 season, Miller displayed hands-catching ability and elite body control in his final season, something that can’t be said for the majority of QBs who make the transition to WR – who often possess speed but not the body control to maneuver in and out of cuts and make consistent plays for the ball like Terrelle Pryor. Miller is a rarity in that department, and his speed is of the blazing variety — he posted an unofficial 4.32 forty in 2013.
As far as NFL prospects go, Miller may be considered a luxury pick, but he may very well become some lucky team’s not so secret offensive weapon. You can line him up anywhere and expect him to make big plays. You can even run him from the RB position a la Denard Robinson, who has done admirably in that role. Miller is bigger and more dynamic than Robinson though. His game breaking ability and Swiss Army knife skill set reminds me of Percy Harvin, and Miller has a chance to fill a similar role, hopefully to spectacular results. We’ll get a good read on Miller at the Senior Bowl.
