As the 2024 NFL Season gets closer, and the content warms up at RosterWatch.com, here is your reminder that we will be live on SiriusXM again this summer on Saturdays and Sundays as we take you with us on the 2024 Training Camp Tour.
Running Backs to Target in 2024 Fantasy Football Drafts
Jaylen Wright (RB – Miami)
FFPC ADP: 128.85 (RB45)
Fantasy Pros ADP: RB48
Wright is Projected to be the RB3 for the Miami Dolphins in Week 1, behind De’Von Achane and Raheem Mostert. In 2023, Mostert rushed for 1,000 yards for the first time in his 9-year career along with 21 total touchdowns. He missed 2 games and turned 32 years old in April. Rookie De’Von Achane is expected to bounce back after missing 6 games in 2023.
Look for the Dolphins to utilize Wright as an effective No. 3 even with Mostert and Achane healthy. Salvon Ahmed, Jeff Wilson, and Chris Brooks combined for 82 carries and 40 targets. Wright’s floor on Day 1 is to average 4-6 fantasy points per game, the ceiling comes with Achane and/or Mostert missing time, Two of the highest injury-prone players in the NFL.
Ty Chandler (RB – Minnesota)
FFPC ADP: 137.03 (RB48)
Fantasy Pros ADP: RB46
During the 2023 RosterWatch Training Camp Tour, I stopped in Minnesota to take in the Titans and Viking’s joint practices. The biggest takeaway from the day was simply the backfield, Minnesota did not trust Chandler, Kene Nwangwu, or DeWayne McBride to be the No.2 next to Alexander Mattison. Just a few weeks later, the Vikings traded a late-round selection to the Los Angeles Rams for Cam Akers. During the 2023 season, Cam Akers went down with another Achilles injury, prompting a Ty Chandler role shift.
It was then that we saw the true abilities of Ty Chandler, finishing 6 of the remaining games with 10+ carries, and four games with 3+ targets. Chandler had a career day against the Bengals, finishing with 132 yards rushing and one of his three touchdowns on the season.
With Alexander Mattison in Las Vegas, a STRONG 2025 NFL Draft Running Back Class, and the Vikings signing soon-to-be 30-year-old Aaron Jones to a one-year deal from Green Bay. It feels like the writing is on the wall in Minnesota… speak now, or forever hold your peace, Ty Chandler.
Braelon Allen (RB – New York Jets)
FFPC ADP: 175.13 (RB59)
Fantasy Pros ADP: RB57
Ray Davis (RB – Buffalo)
FFPC ADP: 142.51 (RB50)
Fantasy Pros ADP: RB47
This is James Cook‘s backfield to lose in 2024, that’s apparent – but the real question is, what is the Buffalo Bills contingency plan if an injury takes place? The backfield currently consists of Rookie Ray Davis, UDFA Frank Gore Jr., veteran Ty Johnson, and Darrynton Evans in the backfield. Ray Davis turns 25 years old in November, but he runs like a young Dameon Pierce and is one of my favorite late-round backs in 2024, due to sheer, without a doubt, opportunity.
Will Shipley (RB – Philadelphia)
FFPC ADP: 237.82 (RB69)
Fantasy Pros ADP: RB67
Heading into Fall Training Camp, Shipley is no more than a Rookie we are placing a bet on. After a dominant career at Clemson and a progressively better pre-draft process, the Philadelphia Eagles spent a 4th-round selection on the all-purpose back with 4.39 wheels at the Clemson Pro Day. Shipley expects to enter camp in a battle for the No.2 spot on the roster behind Saquon Barkley, but we don’t expect the battle to last long with Kenny Gainwell.
Eric Gray (RB – New York Giants)
FFPC ADP: 231.67 (RB68)
Fantasy Pros ADP: RB72
