“Stay-Away” Fantasy Players from the AFC

Stay Away Players From the AFC

For reasons that are largely out of their control, for the most part, I’m avoiding these players in fantasy. They may be familiar names, but they won’t help win you championships if their lots stay the same when the season starts…

Joshua Kelley, Chargers
Kelley is playing behind Justin Jackson right now, which is a surprise considering that Jackson was thought to be on the roster bubble to start camp. In truth, Jackson was a more consistent runner than Kelley last year, and it doesn’t help Kelley’s chances either that rookie Larry Rountree who is a similar type of back as Kelley is in the mix too. Kelley’s ADP is currently above both Jackson and Rountree, and I can’t justify taking him ahead of either right now.

Gabriel Davis, Bills
I suppose if any team can support four WRs it’s the Bills, but I can’t make sense of drafting a player who may not be on the field consistently over guys like Elijah Moore, Breshad Perriman and Russell Gage – Davis’ ADP is above all three currently. I love Davis’ skillset, but with Stefon Diggs, Emmanuel Sanders and Cole Beasley rounding out the top three WR positions in Buffalo, I don’t see much room for Davis to make a fantasy dent with any regularity.

Ravens WRs
Ravens’ top WR Marquise Brown has a hamstring injury that’s more serious than the team had thought, so who knows how long he’s out or if it remains a nagging injury throughout the season. Behind him are Sammy Watkins and rookie Rashod Bateman, both of whom are uber talented, but the Ravens’ offense can only support one WR with any consistency and he’s not even a WR – I’m talking about Mark Andrews. Being good isn’t enough for a WR to break even in Baltimore, and I can only imagine the kind of hair-pulling irregularity we’re going to see out of this WR corps.

Preston Williams, Dolphins
Williams has potential written all over him, but he’s only competed in eight games per season his first two years in the league, and he now has long man Will Fuller and rookie phenom Jaylen Waddle to contend with for targets in the WR corps, in addition to DeVante Parker of course. I don’t see where Williams fits, especially with a QB in Tua Tagovailoa who may not even be able to support more than two pass-catchers on a regular basis.

John Brown, Raiders
Why you’d bring a deep-ball specialist onto a team that doesn’t throw deep is beyond me – It already makes no sense when Henry Ruggs‘ talent is being wasted in Las Vegas already. If Derek Carr can make fantasy producers out of Darren Waller, Ruggs AND Brown in the same season, I’ll eat my hat. If you draft Brown for whatever reason, be prepared for many a frustrating weekend, if you can even play him.

Was referring to the guys in Trashman’s article to stay away from. Chase and Lamb should be drafted, agree.

  3. Thanks Trashman very helpful. Dropped Marquise Brown and added David Johnson. Unfortunately I drafted JK Dobbins 20 minutes b4 his season ending injury. :(…. Hate making moves b4 season starts. Down to Mike Davis, Micheal Carter, David Johnson and Rountree for my RB’s heading into the season. Thankfully I have the 1st waiver wire position this season. Stacked at WR Hill/Ridley/Metcalf/Aiyuk. Should be fine er uh….. At least I have some trade value with one of my receivers if need be? Any thoughts would be helpful. Trying to repeat in this league. Two firsts and a third place finish last year! Thanks again you guys!
