Scouting Report:

Terrance Williams comes to the NFL on the heels of a productive college career and an absolutely monstrous senior season. When watching Baylor games, he often reminded us of former New York Giants (and recently retired) wide receiver Steve Smith. On film, you can see Williams’ size and body control as he positioned for hands catches. Never a burner, Williams looked like a nice possession receiver.

Despite his college success, Williams completely failed to stand out during the NFL Draft process. He was nearly invisible during the week of Senior Bowl practices, and during workouts at the NFL Combine. Yet, the Cowboys apparently went with what they saw on tape. Jerry Jones has always been a sucker for a player with some regional appeal.

We came away from the draft process thinking of Williams as a Mohammed Sanu-type prospect. The Cowboys would be pleased to see that type of flash this season. They desperately need a replacement for Miles Austin—and a Williams’ “Sanu” to a Dez Bryant’s “A.J. Green” would surely make Cowboys fans happy. Tread lightly though. The reports from Valley Ranch have been luke-warm at best when it comes to Terrance Williams’ progress.

Fantasy Analysis:

If Williams is the player we saw at Baylor, he has a bright future in a high-powered Cowboys offense. Dez Bryant now formally warrants a double team. QB Tony Romo has shown a penchant for the #3 which could be useful as Williams develops behind and aging Austin. Kind of a wait-and-see here. Williams could be a nice play could be a classic Jerry Jones bust. Williams is no more than a late round flier in redraft leagues, but is a better late-round option in keeper and dynasty formats.

  1. Got him late in a DEEP dynasty league. Hope it works out.
