The Fantasy Fallout Heading Into Week 16

It’s Week 16, and if you’re reading this you’re probably in your Championship game. You probably have your studs in place, but it never hurts to check twice. Here’s the fallout going into Week 16:

Buccaneers vs Rams

  • V Jax is very questionable for week 16, making Evans a WR1 for your championship run. Sims will also be a reasonable flex against the Bears.

  • Gurley managed to salvage a pretty good day against the Bucs thanks to a TD and some receptions, but his ground game was less than stellar. I’m kind of worried about his matchup with Seattle this week, as they are arguably the best team against the run. What Gurley does have going is the fact that St. Louis doesn’t have many other offensive weapons besides him and Austin. I’m not saying to sit him, but I wouldn’t fault you for erring on the side of caution if you have other options with better matchups.

Jets vs Cowboys

  • Ivory hasn’t scored since week 12 and has taken somewhat of a backseat to Bilal Powell over recent weeks due to the defensive style of opponents and game flow. I hate to say it, but this week’s matchup with the Pats suits Powell better again.

  • I like other Jets skill players this week. Fitzmagic had a solid game against the Pats earlier this season, and should hold his own at home.

  • McFadden owners can rest easy in week 16 versus the Bills after putting 100 yds on the Jets.

  • I’d like to say the same for Bryant owners, as Kellen Moore seems to have reinvigorated the Dallas passing game, but he’ll be the definition of boom or bust on the end of Moore’s strong but erratic arm.

  • Witten makes for a low ceiling play this week as Moore’s safety blanket. He’ll get the targets, just remember that he hasn’t scored since week 1.

Texans vs Colts

  • Look, it’s Brandon Weeden back to ruin someone else’s fantasy season! I’d like to say that Hopkins is impervious to bad QB play, but that just isn’t true with Weeden. What helps Hopkins is that Shorts is probably going to be absent this week, so he’ll get hella targets. They just might not make it to him.

  • Alf Blue looks healthy, and should be in line for another heavy load this week against division rival Titans. His ceiling is limited, but he’s definitely worth flexing.

  • I kind of hate all Colts skill players right now. Not one of them is a reliable play for your championship.

Bears vs Vikings

  • Alshon Jeffery is questionable this week with a lingering hamstring issue. He’s been dealing with it all season, and I don’t like his chances for week 16. If he sits, which is likely, Zach Miller and Matt Forte are the beneficiaries, and the only Bears, along with Langford, who I’d bother with this week.

  • Teddy had a monster versus the Bears, but I’m not bullish on him doing it again this week, even though he’s playing the Giants. He’s only thrown for multiple TDs twice this season.

  • Looks like AP’s scare was just that. He’ll be good to against the G-men.

  • Diggs had a reawakening in week 15 with 2 scores, but keep in mind he did it on 3 receptions. That’s not much to hang your hat on in such an important week.

Titans vs Patriots

  • Zach Mettenberger is Tenn’s QB now, and maybe for the rest of the season, but I’m not worried. In fact, I think he’s a good thing for DGB. I’m still not starting either of them unless I have to though.

  • Antonio Andrews is doing it all. Running the ball, catching passes, and everything in between. He and Walker are the only Titans I feel comfortable with this week.

  • Bill Belichick did it again. Just when you thought there was finally some consistency in the Pats backfield, he elevated Joey Iosefa from the practice squad to lead the Pats in carries against the Titans. You can flex James White this week in hopes that they use him heavily in the passing game, but don’t be surprised if that’s not how things shake out.

  • There’s a slim possibility Edelman returns this week, but the odds are not good. Even worse are the chances Amendola suits up. It’s sketchy at best, but LaFell looks like he could lead Pats WRs in targets this week. Do with that situation what you will.

Panthers vs Giants

  • CAP ended up leading the Panthers’ backfield against the Giants, and his usage in the passing game makes him flex worthy this week.

  • Rashad Jennings finally did what we’ve been hoping he would do all season against the Panthers. Chances are he was on your bench when he did it though. Don’t rely on him to have a big day against the vikings.

  • Well, it’s likely ODB has helped get you to this point, but it’s very likely he won’t take you any further. He’s been suspended this week, and though he’ll appeal, the suspension will probably be upheld. Rueben Randle needs to be rostered and started in his stead.

Bills vs Redskins

  • McCoy is likely to be out this week. The question is whether you start Gillislee or Williams against the Cowboys. Williams is the much better talent, but the Bills like Gillislee a lot and he’s scored in back to back games. Both could be flex worthy, but I’m leaning on Williams if i have the choice. Woods is on I.R by the way… in case you were thinking of losing this week.

  • Cousins had a monster versus the Bill, and I like him this week against the Eagles too. Furthermore, Jackson and Reed are big upside plays. Morris led the backfield in week 15, and it’s likely the ‘Skins will trust him with the mail again this week. Jones is just too turnover prone.

Falcons vs Jaguars

  • I imagine not much has changed for either team since Atlanta and Carolina met two weeks ago. Julio will maintain a high floor, and Freeman is more RB 2 than RB1 this week. I’m not expecting major things from either though.

  • It seems that Thomas has usurped Hurns as the go to in the redzone, and that’s doing damage to Hurns’ ceiling. Fortunately, the Jags face the Saints this week, making every Jag skill player a strong play.

  • The backfield is murky for the Jags this week, as Robinson is iffy and Yeldon may not be healthy enough to come back.  Should both of them miss, Jonas Gray is the next man up. I have a feeling Robinson will tough it out though.

Chiefs vs Ravens

  • Nothing new for K.C. They keep on winning, and that’ll probably stay the same against the Browns this week. Keep rolling with your Chiefs skill players.

  • Aiken remains a WR2 on a weekly basis despite the QB situation in B-more. He just gets peppered with targets.

  • Could be the Terrance West show this week for the Ravens because Allen can’t seem to hold onto the ball. It doesn’t really matter. I don’t suggest starting either against the Steelers.

Packers vs Raiders

  • Yeah the Pack won, but it’s hard to say how that offense is going to run this week. James Jones was the leading WR, and he hasn’t done squat in weeks. As wild as it sounds, I’m saying that a lot today, I don’t feel great about starting any Packer except for Rodgers this week against the Cards.

  • Murray gets the volume, but he’s just not a RB1 any way you slice it. He does have a cherry matchup with the Chargers this week though.

  • Let’s hope Cooper can maintain his roll this week. San Diego can cover, so I’m not expecting WR1 numbers, but he has the talent to surprise anybody.

Browns vs Seahawks

  • The Browns weren’t going to run right at the Seahawks so Crowell never had a chance. Things won’t change more against the Cheifs this week.

  • Benjamin should have a better turn this time round though. He’s a WR3 with considerable this week.

  • Christine Michael had the best showing versus Cleveland of the Seahawks backs, and he looks primed to lead the backfield versus the Rams. He hasn’t had the right stuff since he’s been in the NFL, but the ‘Hawks say he’s turned a corner. We’ll see. He’ll get enough volume to be worth a speculative flex.

Broncos vs Steelers

  • We don’t know who will start for the Broncos this week, but it doesn’t seem to matter for Thomas and co. I’d still run him and Sanders out there.

  • I’m not starting Hillman or Anderson against the Bengals this week. Too many questions, too little upside.

  • Fire up all skill players for Pittsburgh this week, and I mean Wheaton too. Everyone is safe versus the ravens.

Dolphins vs Chargers

  • Tannehill has lost his edge it seems. You can still start Landry and Parker this week, but there upsides are limited, as they aren’t scoring TDs often.

  • Apparently Miller was dealing with a Quad injury this past week. Let’s hope he’s healed up, but I’m scared of the Dolphins misusing him. He’s still a start, but he’s more flex than RB2 IMO.

  • Donald Brown and Danny Woodhead are worth flexing against the Raiders. Both will get significant action on a Chargers team with few playmakers.

  • Inman was a decent play in week 15 and stands to put up numbers worth flexing him for in week 16, if Stevie Johnson doesn’t return. Johnson practiced today though, so don’t jump the gun.

Bengals vs 49ers

  • McCarron severely limits the upside of A.J. Green., especially against the Broncos. Green is a flex at best this week.

  • In fact, flex is the best designation I can give any Bengals skill player going into this weekend.

  • The same can be said for any 49er this week. Boldin has the best chance of making hay of the group. Draughn is best left for PPRs, if he even plays.

Cardinals vs Eagles

  • David Johnson, my oh my. I’d say it’s ok to leave the training wheels off Coach Arians.

  • Fitz continues to struggle behind Brown and Floyd. He’s a WR2 with little upside these days. I’d play either of his cohorts over him.

  • Ryan Mathews is the RB play in Philly, and I think he’s a RB2 this week versus the skins. Make sure you at least flex him.

Lions vs Saints

  • As good as Riddick has been this season, the fact that he isn’t really used in the redzone makes his floor the lowest of the Detroit RB bunch.

  • Mega’s ankle injury makes him a scary start in your championship week. I’m not chancing it unless I’m desperate, and if you’re in the championship, you probably have other options.

  • Brees was seen in a boot today, making him questionable to start this week. With the season lost, the Saints may err on the side of caution, though that’s never been something that Sean Peyton was good at doing.

  • Colston continues his late season rise. He’s worth a deep league gamble versus the Jags.
