Tolbert signs with Carolina: Fantasy Implications

Human wrecking ball Mike Tolbert has signed with Carolina in what I can only guess is an attempt by them to accumulate as many potential starting running backs as possible. The backfield now includes Tolbert, Jonathan Stewart, Mike Goodson, and DeAngelo Williams. One has to think that at least one of these guys will get the boot before season starts, but even so, I don’t think this move bodes particularly well for the stalwart Tolbert. This is mainly because they already have a pretty legit goal line back in Cam Newton. Chances are also good that he will not be the starter in front of any one of the other running backs on the roster, who are more prototypical backs. The Panthers have shown that two running backs can thrive in their running game, I’m just not sure Tolbert is one of them. Consider Tolbert handcuff material for now. As for Stewart and Williams, I’ll reiterate that at least one of them will probably get moved to some lucky team. My guess is Stewart as he doesn’t have the huge contract the Williams does right now. The remaining starter should have a solid if not inconsistent season ahead of him.
Update* Multiple team sources are claiming that Carolina plans on keeping Stewart, Williams, and Tolbert this season. If that is truly the case, good luck figuring out who to start on Sundays. As it stands, all three are on my do not draft list.
