Cody Carpentier’s Top 10 Takeaways from The 2025 NFL Offseason
1. Pete Carroll comes out of Retirment at Age 73 to join the Las Vegas Raiders.
Just one season after retiring from the Seattle Seahawks, Carroll had an advisor role with the Seahawks through training camp of 2024, he stated that he had little to do with the Seahawks, aside from watching a few of the preseason games on television, feeling it was the right thing to do to let them go. In January of this year, he signed a 3-year deal with the Las Vegas Raiders, with a 4th year team option.
2. Four New GMs and Seven New Head Coaches in 2025. Three Hired Both.
- The New York Jets replaced both Head Coach and General Manager this offseason, Aaron Glenn departed the Lions to become the HC. The new GM is Darren Moughey, who spent almost 15 years in Denver’s front office.
- The New England Patriots fired Jerod Mayo after one season after promoting him from linebacker coach. Former linebacker Mike Vrabel who spent the 2024 season as an advisor for the Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes, is the new Head Coach in New England

- The Jacksonville Jaguars moved on from both Trent Baalke (4 seasons) and Doug Pederson (3 seasons) after a 22-29 record together. Liam Coen came to Jacksonville after a season with the Buccaneers as Offensive Coordinator in 2024. James Gladstone took over as GM just weeks later after departing the Rams front office at age 34.
- The Las Vegas Raiders hired Pete Carroll as mentioned above, while also firing GM Tom Telesco (2nd time being fired in a year). The new GM is John Spytek from Tampa Bay.
- The Tennessee Titans moved on from Ran Carthon after two seasons and hired Mike Borgonzi from the Kansas City Chiefs, where he has spent the last 16 years.
- The New Orleans Saints hired Kellen Moore from the Super Bowl winning Philadelphia Eagles. He replaces Dennis Allen, who was fired mid-way through the 2024 season.
3. The New England Patriots DOMINATED Spending… Did they Win the Offseason?
- Milton Williams, DT – 4 year $104 million (Philadelphia)

The last team to spend $90 million more than the next in free agency was the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2022, who spent on Christian Kirk, Brandon Scherff, Evan Engram and Darious Williams. The Jaguars went from 3-14 to 9-8 and division champions. The Patriots were 4-13 in 2024.

During the 2023 free agency period Miles Sanders, David Montgomery, and Jamaal Williams signed contracts… Ezekiel Elliott and Kareem Hunt signed contracts in the fall, while Leonard Fournette was signed to the Bills Practice Squad in October.
