Trashman’s Deep Sleeper Quarterbacks for 2020

They’ll be boom or bust, but you won’t give up much to get them. These are my 5 favorite QB Sleepers in fantasy right now…

Gardner Minshew, Jaguars:

  • 5th in rushing yards for QBs in 2019
  • Top 10 QB in Weeks 1 through 9
  • No.1 QB rating throwing deep in 2019
  • No.10 QB rating under pressure
  • New weapons in Laviska Shenault and Chris Thompson, both of whom can catch passes out of the backfield
  • QB28 ADP

Teddy Bridgewater, Panthers

  • The Panthers defense is in a rebuilding stage, so the offense will be playing from behind often
  • With Christian McCaffrey, DJ Moore, Robby Anderson, and Curtis Samuel as primary pass catchers, he’ll be able to stretch the field on virtually every play
  • Faces LV, TB, ARI, and ATL in 4 of first 5 weeks of the season
  • QB 27 ADP

Dwayne Haskins, Redskins

  • Lost Kelvin Harmon (ACL), but gained Antonio Gibson, the most dynamic player in college football last year
  • Was the Big 10’s all-time leader in single-season TDs
  • OSU coach Urban Meyer claimed he was the best QB in Ohio State History
  • Improved over his rookie season, and his current coach actually wants him to succeed
  • Is the confirmed starter and gets Alex Smith back to help him progress as a QB
  • 9th best schedule for QBs, 31QB ADP

Tyrod Taylor, Chargers

  • 2017, last season as a starter, was 3rd in QB rushing yards and 1st in TD to INT ratio for a starting QB
  • 5th best schedule for QBs
  • Starting RB Austin Ekeler was 2nd to only Christian McCaffrey in RB receptions and receiving yards in 2019 – and he wasn’t the “starter”
  • Has Keenan Allen as his safety blanket
  • Current ADP of QB30, so he offers immense value

Ben Roethlisberger, Steelers

  • QB 15 currently, and hasn’t finished outside of QB9 in fantasy points per game in 5 years prior to injury shortened 2019
  • Finished 2nd in QB fantasy points to Patrick Mahomes in 2018
  • Steelers were no.1 in pass rate when playing from behind in 2018 and the most pass-heavy team when the game was within one score
  • Faces NYG and HOU in 2 of first 3 weeks

Robert: How are you handling QB this year? Going for an elite option? or playing the wait game?

  2. Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe in these unprecedented times, and here’s hoping we have a healthy and full season!

I am checking in on my dynasty squad before waivers tonight and all of a sudden I have the ability to move 4 of my players to IR with these new COVID/Opt Out rules apparently? As a result I’m trying to prioritize who to claim and how much of my remaining $178 waiver budget to use on up to 4 of the following guys:

McCoy, C. Conley, J. Gordon, Darwin Thompson, Bryce Love, Burkhead, Gore, Hollister, Tyrod, R. Fitzpatrick…

    My team:

10 team Dynasty PPR (6pt passing TD, -2 INT)
    1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 2 (WR/RB/TE) 1 TE

QB: Mayfield, Tannehill, Stidham, Winston, Hill,
RB: L. Fournette, J. White, Dobbins, Vaughn, R. Jones, Joshua Kelley, Armstead, D. Freeman
WR: Chark, D. Samuel, T. Boyd, J. Crowder, Mims, Van Jefferson, M. Jones, A. Lazard, A. Tate, D. Funchess
TE: H. Henry, Jarwin, Trautman, G. Olsen, K. Rudolph

Nobody I am really dying to get out of that group- Trashman likes Tyrod as a sleeper QB- that might be sneaky. Could see maybe adding Thompson or Love—-or maybe pick up Gore for free

      Renourka:

On the RosterWatch podcast #270, Alex and JJ were talking about how “Shady” may have been signed to fill the 3rd down role. If that pans out, he could be a nice pickup in PPR leagues. I’m a bit of a spender on waivers so I’d make that bet for 10-12$ FAAB dollars

Alan I’ve liked your articles this season too. You guys are getting us prepped, appreciate it. I’m in a 10 team half point and dont ever get QB early. I want the RBs and WR first 6 plus rounds. I think something like Allen or Brees before round 10 and get one of Trashmans above guys late like Big Ben or Minshew.

Thanks for the nice feedback. We love interacting with RW Nation. I’m in agreement in a 10 team start one QB league, you can even take a QB with one of your last picks and be ok. Load up on those RB/WR/TE baby!

Do you guys have a new dynasty rankings list not just the rookies?

Starting my first ever dynasty league this year.

      Hi Mark,

Thanks for your loyal support! Hope you are doing well. Currently, we have the Dynasty Rookie cheat sheet + the season long draft cheat sheets. For now, we’d recommend using those in combo. We will add dynasty rankings to our product dev list for consideration. Thanks a ton for the input! #RWNation

Awesome thanks. Do you have any recommendations on how to value which positions for the brand new dynasty? i.e. is it worth spending big on Mahomes or Jackson since you should get 10+ years of value or try and diversify and spend evenly for all positions.

Mark- Generally, we don’t look further out than 3 yr in dynasty. However, Mahomes is a rare bird that would likely be my top overall dynasty pick, or near the top. That said, like most drafts you are still paying close attention to positional scarcity to indicate when to take players at certain positions, as well as to drive value. Mostly, you will still be looking at a value based strategy, filling up on as many good players as possible, building a fairly balanced roster, prioritizing the younger players, and possibly consider trading back for more picks if you get in to a no-mans-land scenario at some juncture(s) of your draft . Good luck, can’t wait to see the squad. Like Alan says- feel free to pop in here with questions during your draft.

Makes sense. Thanks for the response guys. Stay safe.

Thanks for the information Alan. Will do.

  5. Hey Guys,

How do I download the cheat sheet to integrate with the Fantasy Pros draft wizard?

    1. Post By Byron Lambert

Should be able to use the create cheat sheet function, and copy/paste it in

      1. Thank you for your reply Byron, I tried that but it doesn’t format the columns properly. I can manually do it, I just remember Alex talking about having the RW cheat sheet in Fantasy Pros. I look forward to hearing y’all tonight on the Fantasy channel.
