Trashman’s Fantasy Fallout Going Into Week 16

trashman-editFantasy can be a cruel mistress at times. She certainly was if you are an owner of Antonio Brown, Thomas Rawls, Tyler Eifert or a number of usually high scoring players. Hopefully, you’re still alive and kicking though. Here’s the fallout to round out Week 16. Good luck in your Championships RW nation!

Rams vs Seahawks

Todd Gurley Camp 750

  • Well, if you’ve held onto Gurley all this time you might as well go ahead and use him against the 49ers in Week 16. There’s a chance Mannion will start in place of Goff so they’ll lean on Gurley, and we all know how the 49ers get on with opposing running backs.
  • Lockett played ahead of Kearse in 2-wide sets and it paid off. After seeing how Cooks popped free against the Cardinals on Sunday, it’s not a crazy idea to flex Lockett if you need to.
  • Rawls had a ton of carries but couldn’t do anything with them. I think he’ll fare better against Arizona, but I’m not crazy about him this week.

Dolphins vs Jets

  • Matt Moore usually does a decent job in relief for a few games before the wheels come off. I’m not risking a fantasy championship on that info though.
  • No Dolphins receiver got more than 4 targets in Week 15, so you have to take these big games from Landry and Sims with a grain of salt.
  • The late news that Forte was playing was nothing but a red herring. Hopefully it didn’t put you off of Powell in Week 15, and hopefully it won’t put you off of him this week.
  • I’m staying away from Anderson in anything but PPR formats, as the Jets face the Patriots this week.

Packers vs Bears

  • If there was any question who the starting back was going into Week 15, it’s been answered soundly. Montgomery is the only Packer back you’re touching this week.
  • What can I say about DaVante Adams? Dude dropped two would be TDs on Sunday, ruining a lot of people’s fantasy dreams in the process. He has vacillated from WR1 to bench fodder and back over the last two months. By that account, he’s due for a bounce back this week.
  • Alshon Jeffery busted back onto the scene this week, but so did just about every other Bears WR. Jeffery is the only one I’m bothering with against the Redskins though.

Jaguars vs Texans

  • They make everything big in Texas, including their mistakes. Thankfully, they finally manned up and sat Osweiler’s sad behind down on the bench, and the Texans were all the better for it. Savage will be the QB in Week 16, reenergizing Hopkins’ fantasy potential, but the bad news is that the Texans are likely stuck with Osweiler and will give him another go next season.

Browns vs Bills

  • Duke Johnson had the best game of any Brown on Sunday, and of course it was impossible to foresee. It was his best game in months and not something I’d want to hang my hat on for Week 16.
  • RG3 renders all of his receivers unreliable.
  • The Bills didn’t need any of their WRs the way that Shady was dominating the game. Watkins will be much more useful this week.

Eagles vs Ravens

  • The story that Wentz’s WRs can’t catch is getting old. You have to put some of the onus on this kid. Either way, it’s going to be tough sledding versus the Giants this week. Ertz is the only pass catcher I’d bet on.
  • Ryan Mathews is the best thing the Eagles offense has going and that’s no endorsement. He’s safe to start in Week 16.
  • We’re back to square one in the Ravens backfield. Just when we thought Dixon was taking over, West goes and gets the most carries and yards. It could go either way versus the Steelers this week.
  • Steve Smith Sr. and Mike Wallace will be worth flex plays against Pittsburgh this week, with Smitty being the first option.

Titans vs Chiefs

  • Henry had a stellar game for getting limited carries against the Chiefs, and he could continue to have standalone value in Week 16 against the Jags, who he had his season high yardage total against in their first meeting.
  • Rishard Matthews is Mariota’s new safety blanket. Sorry Walker owners.
  • Maclin led all Chiefs in receiving targets and yards against the Titans. I dare you to use him against Denver this week.

Lions vs Giants

  • The only Lions back I would play against Dallas is Riddick. Hope he’s back by then.
  • The Giants play the Eagles this week coming, and they let everybody play catch. Make sure you have Shepard handy.
  • The Giants backfield was almost an even split, with Perkins being the more productive back. Both he and Jennings will get run this week, making neither a desirable play.

Colts vs Vikings

  • Ok, that wasn’t expected. The Colts had their way with the Vikings on the road, and they did it mostly on the ground. Turbin continues to be a TD vulture and could have sneaky flex value against the Raiders.
  • Hilton remains the only viable WR should Moncrief not return in Week 16. There are too many options otherwise.
  • Well, so much for AP’s return. You would have almost done better to leave your roster spot open than to play him, cause at least then you would have known exactly what you were getting. You can’t risk using him against the Pack this week.
  • Thielen will go through the concussion protocol this week. If he can’t go, Diggs becomes a nice start versus the Packers secondary.

Steelers vs Bengals

  • Brown continued his run of subpar performances versus the the Bengals on Sunday, but he’ll be primed to bounce back against the Ravens this week. Green will continue to be an integral part of the passing game as well.
  • The Bengals took the path of least resistance and went to LaFell all day long. The real loser here was Eifert and his owners. The first game in 5 weeks in which he didn’t score a TD, and it had to come in the playoffs. SMH. He’ll still be a top option even against the Texans.

Saints vs Cardinals

    mark ingram 750

  • Ingram got the bulk of carries, but Hightower got the TDs. I think some of that might have been to let Hightower get some revenge on his former team, but it’s a little disconcerting for Ingram owners. Both are flexes at best this week.
  • We had concerns that Cooks was going to be shadowed by Peterson, but that was put to rest quickly. Cooks, Snead, and Thomas are all safe plays against Tampa Bay this week.
  • J.J. Nelson led the Cardinals in targets(11) on Sunday and even has some decent prospects against Seattle, who may struggle to contain a shorter, faster WR like Nelson.
  • John Brown seems to be healthy now, after dealing with issues related to Sickle-Cell this season. He could maintain sneaky value this week as well.

49ers vs Falcons

    CARLOS HYDE 750

  • The 49ers got behind so early that it was hard to keep Hyde involved in the game plan. He should have a much better day against the Rams this week.
  • Julio Jones is on track to return this week, so the big day from Aldrick Robinson is likely his last. Gabriel should retain enough value against Carolina to stay flex-worthy.
  • Freeman went bonkers on the 49ers, but Coleman also got double-digit carries and should maintain enough standalone value to stay in play this week.

Patriots vs Broncos

  • Dion Lewis got the nod over Blount against the heavy-hitting  Broncos and should stay heavily involved against the Jets, another stout run defense.
  • All Patriots pass catchers should fare better against the Jets this week. I’d feel comfortable about playing Edelman, Bennett, Mitchell or Hogan.
  • Forsett “led” the backfield, but that’s not saying much considering that he had only 10 carries and 37 yards on the ground. He’s still the Denver back I’d rather take a chance on against the Chiefs this week, as he catches passes well.

Raiders vs Chargers

    derek-carr-750

  • It’s pretty obvious these days that Crabtree is Carr’s safety valve. That being said, both he and Cooper should have a field day versus the Colts this week.
  • The only thing keeping Farrow in fantasy consideration is the fact that the Chargers face the Browns this week. He’s still an RB3 at best in the matchup, IF Gordon can’t go.
  • Williams actually led the team in targets(9), although he didn’t do much with them. Williams was close behind with 8. Both warrant fantasy consideration this week against the Browns. Benjamin only got 3 targets, although one was a huge TD, and he’s a shaky flex.

Buccaneers vs Cowboys

  • Dak bounced back against the Bucs, dispelling benching rumors, but I don’t love his chances of having a great game, personally, against Detroit this week.
  • Humphries got a nice TD, but he’s not doing enough on a regular basis to warrant fantasy consideration in all but the deepest of leagues. Brate and Evans are no brainers this week though.

Panthers vs Redskins

  • Stewart stole the show on Monday night, helping to take pressure away from a beleaguered Newton. He’ll be an RB1 against Atlanta this week.
  • Ginn JR. strengthened his position as Carolina’s no.1 WR against the Redskins. He and Olsen are the only Panthers pass catchers you can risk taking a chance on this week.
  • After being talked up all week, Cousins couldn’t seal the deal against the previously leaky Panthers secondary. He should be able to at least get a TD or two in versus the Bears this week.
  • Garcon continues to lead the Redskins in targets. Crowder has taken a back seat in the grand scheme of things and can’t be relied up in your finals.
  • Jackson is staying hot. He’s worth a flex against Chicago as well, though it’s a high risk high reward situation.

  1. Had Ladarius green go down. I have ertz, Rudolph, Charles clay, hunter Henry, and Bennett on the wire. This is for all the marbles boys, and I want those marbles.

    1. Check the matchup tool for the best TE matchups. I’m very goosey about Clay in my title game- Bennett too. Ertz, Rudolph, and Henry are the guys I feel most comfortable with. If this is ppr – weigh targets into your decision.

  2. Good morning — Can you suggest a defense to stream – I have Buf on my team and my opponent grab the Chargers — the hot D for the week. Also — Kelce or Eifert this week? thanks

    1. See the defenses on the WWCS

  3. I need to figure out my WR2 and Flex for the championship this week. My options are Tyrell Williams, Inman, Steve smith or Malcolm Mitchell. What you guys think?

    1. MM all day, all night, all year.

  4. Another question if you don’t mind — i have Freeman, Coleman and J Stewart — It seems that Coleman and Freeman alternate good games. Should I start both and leave Stewart on the bench? Carolina does have a good run defense that kept both Atl backs in check in first meeting earlier this year. No sure what to do?

    1. Trashman would tell you to start JStew and pick the right ATL back. I hate JStew and would never trust him for my championship marbles. This should be a competitive game script that keeps TC involved, and DF always plays best in the tough matchups. The safe play with solid upside is both ATL backs. If you’re a gambler- roll JStew and DF.

  5. Championship week. Need this one last game to go back to back champ thanks to RosterWatch Nation! Lets see if we can nail these two positional players to make the dream a reality. Talking full point PPR, need two of the following.

    Tyrell Williams
    Sammy Watkins
    Dontrelle Inman
    Ryan Mathews
    Rishard Mathews
    Tevin Coleman

Opponent could be playing Rivers, but he also has Cam and Luck.

    1. I’d go with Inman and Mathews. Good luck!

      1. which Mathews?

        1. Sorryr, Ryan is the one with one t.

  6. What defense do you guys prefer this week. Giants or Cincinnati?

  7. TM, this is it, for the title! Thanks for the advice, friend.

PPR, need 2 WRs and a FLEX:

    M. Thomas, AJ Green, Inman, Tyrell, Ginn, C. Sims.

I’m thinking M. Thomas (locked in, pretty much), Inman and AJG. Better fallback option add in case AJG can’t go (late Saturday game): Boldin vs. DAL or Eli Rogers vs BAL? I like both matchups. Eli’s might be enhanced if L. Green can’t go.

Also, I’m not gonna do it, but do you think it’d be crazy to plug in C. Sims as RB2 ahead of Ware? Saints should put up points, TB will likely need to air it out in comeback mode?

    1. I like Rogers more there. I don’t know about the Sims move. Bucs won the last matchup in a low scoring game. Good luck!

      1. Any way you would start Derrick Henry over Ware?

It feels like Henry is destined for at least 1 TD against the Jags. Ware has been mediocre at best.

        1. Nevermind, starting to overanalyze things.

I won’t be surprised if Henry outproduces him, but I have to start Ware.

        2. i don’t hate it. I just don’t think kc is going to do much through the air, so they’ll lean on ware heavy.

  8. Thanks RosterWatch for helping me get to the championship game. Standard scoring. Jordan Howard vs Redskins or Lamar Miller vs Bengals? D/ST Chiefs vs Broncos or Chargers @ Browns?

  9. Post By jpistorius@hofliger.com

TM this is for a title 12 team standard. Maybe my third time will be the charm in the finals.

    Cousins is my QB.

Need two WR: D. Jackson, Inman, M. Mitchell, T. Hill or T. Locket.

Need one – I’m praying Gordon comes back. R. Jennings, Peterson, or Forset if Gordon doesn’t play.

    Thanks~~~~

    1. i’d go jackson and inman, unless the weather is really poor in chicago, then i’d go with lockett instead of d jax. i’d go with jennings at rb.

  10. Thank you for all the Tweets, advice, and support this season. Orlando Bloom’s Penis is well-positioned to win the championship this weekend. Much love to #RWN!

  11. I have two questions for my Week 16 Championship in my big league:

Tyler Eifert or Greg Olsen (Leaning Olsen)
Jonathan Stewart or Bilal Powell (Leaning Stewart)

    Half Point PPR

    Let me know, thank you!

  12. Trashman… total points league two weeks out, 40 points from the top. Reed is the TE, but his upside is capped with the injury, very little out there on the wire. If Hooper sits, am I crazy going with Toilolo at TE? Carolina can’t stop the TE, and he’s going to get all the run he can handle as the last man standing. You cosigning on this?

    1. aye, can you pick up a griffin or something? you’re hoping for a td with toilolo and not much else.

  13. the reports on AJG are scaring me off

I know it sounds crazy but….start Eli Rogers (ladarius and Coates both doubtful) over him? Safer floor?

    1. Or instead of waiting it out with AJ to see if he’s active, start Inman or C. Sims?

Also I am leaning Ginn over Inman now with Olsen banged up and high projected total?

      1. what about inman and ginn?

    2. safer floor perhaps. which one would you have less regrets about if you start them and they don’t produce? that’s who i’d go with.
