Trashman’s Fantasy Fallout Going Into Week 7
Trashman’s Fantasy Fallout Going Into Week 7
Every week seems to throw us a curveball this season, and Week 6 was no different! Here’s the fallout going into Week 7 of the NFL season…
Giants – 14 @ Patriots – 35
- Jonathan Hilliman(11/38) was so bad that the Giants waived him the day after the game, signing Buck Allen after the fact. Saquon Barkley stands a good chance of returning this week, and even if he doesn’t, Wayne Gallman should be back. It’s a good idea to grab Gallman if he’s been dropped in your league.
- Golden Tate(6/102/1) exploded against the Pats – I said he was worth starting in this one with Saquon Barkley, Sterling Shepard and Evan Engram sitting. Darius Slayton(3/32) didn’t go big, but he did have 8 targets on the day. Engram and Barkley are trending towards playing this week, but Shepard is a ways off, so both Tate and Slayton are viable in a great matchup with the Cardinals.
- Preseason phenom WR Jakobi Meyers caught all 4 of his passes for 56 yards on Thursday, playing in Phillip Dorsett‘s stead. It helped his cause that Josh Gordon came out of the game with a knee issue late in the first half. Even if Dorsett and Gordon sit this week, Meyer’s upside would be limited if N’Keal Harry returns this week after missing Weeks 1-6.
Panthers – 37 @ Buccaneers – 26
- Kyle Allen made his case for supplanting Cam Newton as the starter in Carolina on Sunday with a 20/227/2 performance in London. Allen hasn’t been amazing in every game he’s started thus far, he’s more of a game manager, but he has avoided turning the ball over, and he keeps his cool under pressure. The Panthers get a bye in Week 7, but don’t be surprised if Allen is still under center come Week 8.
- Curtis Samuel came away with the better line(4/70/1), but D.J. Moore(7/73) led the Panthers in targets with 10. Samuel wasn’t even 2nd in targets – Greg Olsen was(6). In any case, they’re somehow all viable in this offense on any given Sunday.
- Peyton Barber(8/28) out touched Ronald Jones(4/10/1) London, as the Bucs were forced to abandon the run in an effort to play catchup with the Panthers. Just when you thought they would lean on Jones, they go back to the middling Barber. With a bye this week, and a matchup with the undefeated 49ers coming up in Week 8, neither are recommended plays .
- O.J. Howard is getting a target or two more than Cameron Brate, but Brate is getting the endzone looks. He’s scored twice in the last three weeks. If I had to play one of them in a pinch, it would be Brate.
Eagles – 20 @ Vikings – 38
- Jordan Howard(13/49) needs TDs to be viable in fantasy, and that was unlikely against a strong Vikings front. He’ll have a similar but slightly better outlook against a Dallas team that will be playing for their pride this week.
- Miles Sanders(3/86/1) is getting a bump in the passing game with Darren Sproles sidelined. If Sproles sits again this week, Sanders should get quite a bit of action against Dallas this week.
- Dallas Goedert(5/48) had his best game of the season Sunday on 8 targets. I think his usage was largely based around Philly’s efforts to mount a comeback – Nelson Agholor had 7 targets to put it in context. This isn’t moving the needle for Goedert for me.
- Earlier this season I said that Kirk Cousins(22/333/4/1) is a slow starter and won’t be fantasy viable till around Week 6, and here comes like clockwork – Maybe he heard us badmouthing him on the radio show. In any case, the Vikings are starting to air out the ball more – It may have had something to do with Philly’s stout run defense and porous secondary. We’ll probably see something in between this passing attack and their previous run-heavy offense from the Vikings against Detroit this week.
- Alexander Mattison(14/63) is starting to show some standalone value as the backup in Minnesota. It’s true that the Vikings were killing the clock much of the game in order to hold their lead, but Mattison has had over 50 yards in 3 of his last 4 games.
- The squeaky wheel got the grease on Sunday, with Stefon Diggs(7/167/3) doing in one game what many good WRs do in 3. The window to buy low has slammed close, though Diggs will probably be up and down all season.
Redskins – 17 @ Dolphins – 16
- New HC Bill Callahan was true to his word in running the wheels off Adrian Peterson(23/118) on Sunday. Peterson is only 63% owned, so there are plenty of leagues where you can add him. The Redskins won their first game of the season on his back , so don’t expect that approach to change this week against the 49ers.
- Terry McLaurin(4/100/2) is a bonafide stud with Case Keenum under center. He’s an every week starter and can still be added in 20% of leagues.
- Ryan Fitzpatrick(12/132/1) became Fitzmagic on Sunday in a valiant effort to bring the Dolphins back after Josh Rosen lost his head against Washington. Unfortunately for Dolphins WRs, Fitz will go back to the bench in Week 7, as the tanking Dolphins have little to lose in giving Rosen all the work he can handle.
- Mark Walton(11/75) led all Dolphins backs in yards, though Kenyan Drake(16/70) had 5 more touches. Walton is worth monitoring in deep and dynasty leagues.
- Preston Williams(2/31) is still the Dolphins no.1 WR. He got the Josh Norman treatment in this one.
Texans – 31 @ Chiefs – 24
- Carlos Hyde‘s(27/130/1) usage has spiked over the past two weeks with 20+ touches in both games. Still unowned in 25% of leagues, Hyde is going to help a lot of teams through bye weeks.
- Duke Johnson(7/54/1) isn’t getting double digit carries, but his usage in the passing game is making him a viable PPR flex.
- TE Darren Fells(6/69) led the Texans in receiving yards, validating my putting him in the garbage grab bag for Week 6. He’s turning into a passable streamer in deep leagues.
- Just when we thought Damien Williams(2/20/1) might be the lead back after his return last week, Andy Reid comes and turns the situation on its head. LeSeam McCoy out touched Williams 10 to 2 on Sunday, and both he and Darrel Williams outgained Damien. It’s a true timeshare in K.C., but at least McCoy owners can breathe easier now.
- Tyreek Hill(5/80/2) regained his alpha status on Sunday in his return from a shoulder injury. Even if Sammy Watkins sits this week, the other Chiefs WRs are mere dart throws with so many mouths to feed.
Saints – 13 @ Jaguars – 6
- Alvin Kamara(18/66) wasn’t fully healthy on Sunday, and it showed. Latavius Murray had his best game of the season, out-gaining Kamara 79 yards to 66 yards. Kamara’s health is clearly worth monitoring this week, as Murray would be in RB1 consideration should Kamara sit.
- Jared Cook(3/37/1) had his 2nd TD in as many games on Sunday. He’s a favorite of Teddy Bridgewater in the red-zone and warrants streaming consideration going forward.
- Gardner Minshew(14/163/0/1) fell to earth against the Saints after holding steady for the first 5 weeks of the season. The Saints pressured him all day, and he just couldn’t find his receivers. He’s got a get right matchup with the Bengals this week, so don’t hesitate to fire him up.
Seahawks – 32 @ Browns – 28
- Will Dissly tore his achilles’ tendon on Sunday, effectively ending his season. Luke Willson steps in as his replacement, but I’m not adding him outside of the deepest of leagues.
- Jaron Brown(3/29/2) was the recipient of Russell Wilson‘s only two TD throws on the day. I’m not bullish on him, but maybe he’ll take the Will Dissly role in the red-zone. He’s at least worth monitoring.
- Odell Beckham(6/101) finally had his first good game since Week 2 on Sunday, but don’t expect him to continue that trend after the bye this week, as the Browns face the Patriots in Week 8. They then go on to face Denver and Buffalo the following two weeks. Now isn’t a bad time to sell him if you’re struggling.
- Ricky Seals-Jones(3/47/1) has scored in two of his last three games with a goose egg in between. He might actually be worth streaming against the Pats, as they are sure to put the clamps on ODB.
Bengals – 17 @ Ravens – 23
- The Bengals’ O-line is a dumpster fire, and probably won’t improve this season. The addition of A.J. Green might help to take some pressure off of Joe Mixon, but I would be looking to sell any Bengals offensive player I owned right now.
- Auden Tate actually had a decent line in this one, picking up 91 yards on 5 receptions and 12 targets. He’s a low ceiling, high floor flex this week, if you choose to hold onto him.
- With no Marquise Brown to open up the passing game, the Ravens took to the ground all day. Brown is day to day, but he should play if he can make practice at some point this week. If he can’t, no Baltimore WR is a safe play against the Seahawks this week.
49ers – 20 @ Rams – 7
- Tevin Coleman(20/61/1) led the backfield against the Rams, out touching Matt Breida 20 to 17. Fortunately for Breida, the 49ers run the ball as much as any team in the league, so he and Coleman are both warranting of flex spots on the weekly.
- Dante Pettis(3/45) led 49ers WRs with 6 targets on Sunday, but no pass catcher other than George Kittle is worth putting in your lineups.
- Just one week after putting up almost 400 yards and over 500 the game previous, Jared Goff couldn’t gain 80 through the air against the 49ers. This is more a testament to the 49ers’ defense than it is to Goff’s ineptitude, but he hasn’t been very accurate all season. He’s got a prime bounce-back spot against the laughable Falcons this week.
- Darrell Henderson was the Rams’ best offensive player on Sunday, with multiple 10+ yard runs. Both he and Malcolm Brown will be relegated to support roles this week, as Todd Gurley is slated to return.
Falcons – 33 @ Cardinals – 34
- The Falcons gave Devonta Freeman(22/118/2) all the run he could get this week, as he out-touched Ito Smith 22 to just 3. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come, as both backs were close to canceling each other out in fantasy on most weeks. The fact that the Falcons were playing the Cardinals isn’t lost on me though. If you’re looking to sell Freeman, now is the time.
- David Johson was able to gut it out, but if you’re a Johnson owner and have bench space, it’s pertinent that you add Chase Edmonds.
- Keep in mind that Patrick Peterson is returning from his 6-game suspension this week, so the Cardinals secondary won’t be quite the cake-walk that it’s been so far this season.
Cowboys – 22 @ Jets – 24
- Amari Cooper has a bruised thigh and is no lock to play this week. Michael Gallup, Tavon Austin, and Ced Wilson would be the starters for Dallas against a terrible Philly secondary this week. Gallup would warrant WR1 consideration, while Austin and even Wilson would be worth flexing.
- Sam Darnold(23/338/2/1) looked good in his first game back, making respectable receivers out of Robby Anderson, Jamison Crowder and Demaryius Thomas. They’re all worth adds moving forward to Week 7 when they’ll face a New England team that stifles your best player, and the Jets’ best player is Le’Veon Bell of course.
Titans – 0 @ Broncos – 16
- Marcus Mariota was benched in favor or Ryan Tannehill on Sunday in a move that might stick going forward. Neither QB was good against the Broncos, but Tannehill was more capable. All Titans skill players are a hold as we see what such a transition would bring to the offense. Tannehill doesn’t have a cannon, but he should be more active through the air than Mariota.
- Emmanuel Sanders left the game Sunday with a knee injury but doesn’t look like he’ll miss much if any time. If he does DaeSean Hamilton might get a slight bump.
Steelers – 24 @ Chargers – 17
- James Conner(23/119/2) was getting a ton of action before leaving the game in the 3rd quarter with a quad injury. Benny Snell(18/89) relieved him and did an excellent job, but Conner should be back after the bye this week. Snell is still worth a deep league add just in case.
- As one could have imagined, Devlin Hodges was largely ineffective in the passing game, to the chagrin of Steelers WR owners. Fortunately for them, Mason Rudolph is likely to return after the bye this week. The outlook is still not terribly favorable for Juju Smith-Schuster, but it’s better than nothing. Juju’s value on the market can’t get any lower, so if you want to take a chance on him, now is the time.
- Hunter Henry returned to action in a major way on Sunday night, leading the Chargers in receptions(8) and yards(100) and scoring 2 TDs. He’s the top waiver add this week if he’s been dropped in your league – He’s unowned in about 40% of leagues.
- Neither Charger back had much to show for their usage Sunday night, but Melvin Gordon did out-snap Austin Ekeler 37 to 28, even with a negative game script. Ekeler is still worth starting, but don’t be surprised if his usage begins to diminish moving forward, especially with Henry and Mike Williams healthy.
- Keenan Allen hasn’t gotten more than 6 targets in 3 weeks, after averaging 14 over the first 3 weeks of the season. With TENN, CHI, and GB on the slate over the next 3 weeks, Allen could continue to slump.

first of all, kind of hard to take your column seriously when you have hilliman playing for the PATRIOTS….after that its all down hill for me…
Easy there big Chief. You think the Trashman writes this stuff sober? Cut the man some slack, go to an airport rub and tug and chill the f out.
You mad?
nice catch. you do know “it’s all downhill…” means it gets easier right? just saying…
This clown… I’m in a rough spot. Need to choose between Shady or Duke in my RB2 slot due to bye-week-hell issues. Need my boys @RW to shine the light on my best play!
McCoy
Don’t be a dick
Dissly/Herndon owner here, with waiver pickup day tonight (vs typical Tuesdays) – who can I desperately claim, in a barren TE waiver wasteland tonight?
Brate?
Neevmind he’s off this week
Never mind he’s off this week
Gerald Everett, Darren Fells, Luke Willson, and Rhett Ellison if Evan Engram can’t go
On the verge of claiming Saquon in a 2for1 trade special. I just wanna make sure I’m making the right move on my end. He says he’d take S Diggs and A Hooper for Saquon, seems like a no brainer as Hooper is my backup TE and Diggs has been on my bench. My roster is: RB- Fournette, D Johnson, Kerryon, T Coleman. WR- OBJ, M Thomas, Godwin, Marquise Brown, Diggs Sanu. TE- Andrews and Hooper.
I love my roster and feel somewhat loaded across the board, it’s a non ppr league. I have good RB depth but Saquon is a beast. Should I keep Hooper and give up Andrews or proceed with the Diggs and Hooper deal?
In standard, I like Hooper a little bit better than Andrews, but it’s not a huge margin. The big fish is Saquon, and I’d give up either of those TEs to land Barkley. That’s a steal of a trade, imo.
Do I trade Carlos Hyde for golden Tate or leveon bell or fuller and golden Tate
Or do I trade Carlos Hyde for Robby Anderson
i’d go for anderson over tate
Would you make
Any of these trades
I give Jordan Howard for Robby Anderson
Also someone offered me devin Singletary for DJ Chark
I’d take Anderson.
I think I’d keep Chark for now.
Drop Josh Gordon to pick up Desean Jackson or Crowder ?
Not sure if I could pull the plug on Gordon just yet. Is there no one else you can drop for Crowder?
Trade questions my Adams for Kelce
My TE Jimmy G
WR’s
Sutton
Diggs
M Williams
Landry
Crowder
I’m comfortable with that swap, but that’s mostly because I remember Eddie George getting plagued by turf toe. Kelce is a lock as a top 2 or 3 TE ROS. Others might be more wary because there’s so much upside if Adams is healthy.
That’s fine, but you do need to consolidate some of that wr depth to strengthen your starters.
Thank you, that’s what I thinking as well..
Do I drop Gordon for Desean Jackson or crowder ?
i wouldn’t do either. but it you’re set on it, djax in standard, crowder in ppr
Lost Dissly…which TE to stream this week…..Fells, Fant or Rhett Ellison if Engram out or Dawson Knox?ppr
I think ellson. the cardinals are giving points up to te’s at a record pace.
Trashman,
You think Darnold is an above average stream and hold for basically ROS (minus week 7) barring another bout with mono?
NE
@JAX
@MIA
NYG
@WAS
OAK
@CIN
@MIA
@BAL
PIT
I do
I have Rivers as my only QB.
1) Pickup Jones or Brissett to go with him
2) Drop Rivers and pick up either Jones or Brissett and Brees or Cam (if this one what combo do you like)
3) Drop Rivers and pick up Jones and Brissett
Darnold is also available
Both Jones and Brissett have decent looking schedules for the next 4 weeks.
I’m a Brissett owner as well and have been holding for these next few weeks, but I do have my eye on Darnold, and I’m inclined to grab him to run him from Week 8 until the playoffs.
I see Rivers as one of those QBs that have weird ups and downs, yet always winds up delivering formidable numbers by the time the year is over.
I like darnold after this week. Not sure what’s up with rivers right now, but he tends to be up and down.
Do I trade Montgomery or Hyde for Robby Anderson
Do I trade Montgomery or Hyde for Anderson
If you can weasel someone to give you Robby Anderson for Montgomery, I think you have to.
Hey bros keep up the great work.. trade question I hate trading for Qbs but idiots in my league hoard them smfh.. had to start minshew last week…got an offer ..a fellow owner offered me Dak for Miles Sanders…my other rbs are Cook,Ingram, Montgomery,Edmonds,Mattison, and Gus Edwards..12 team league 1 pt PPR…Thanks as always
More than reasonable trade there
PPR, superflex we can only roster 2qbs, I currently have Murray and Brissett, 6pts for passing td, should I worry about Murray’s s schedule after this week? Cam & Darnold available currently 6-0, our league has 3 wk playoff starting wk 14
Murray had done well despite his matchups. I’m not too worried about him. I’d prefer darnold and potentially cam over brissett though.
Have Josh Allen…..ros….Darnell, Jimmy G or Brissett?
Darnold seems to have the upside and may have deficits to overcome pretty often
Trade Tevin Coleman for DJ Chark? 0.5 ppt PPR
Depends on your situation. In a vacuum I’d say they’re about even
Lost Dissly…..waivers has Witten vs Phi, Fant vs KC or Fells vs Ind? which stud do I choose?
