Trashman’s Fantasy Fallout Heading Into Week 5
Trashman’s Fantasy Fallout Going Into Week 5
Players continue to flounder and/or fall out due to injury week to week, but the fantasy season stops for no one. We’ll suss it all out in this week’s fallout…
Jaguars – 21 @ Bengals – 24
- WR Laviska Shenault led the Jaguars in targets(7), receptions(6) and yards(99) on Thursday night, after WR DJ Chark went down to a broken ankle on the first drive. With Chark gone for the season, Shenault’s role will increase significantly. Currently on less than 60% of rosters, Shenault needs to be added where possible. WR Tavon Austin and TE Dan Arnold could see increased roles as well.
- RB Joe Mixon has a low grade ankle sprain and is day to day. If he misses this week, RB Samaje Perine would have RB2 status or maybe better against the Packers.
- TE Cj Uzomah feasted on Thursday with 5 catches for 95 yards and 2 TDs. If WR Tee Higgins is out again this week, Uzomah makes for a decent streamer.
Colts – 27 @ Dolphins – 17
- RB Marlon Mack logged 11 touches to Jonathan Taylor‘s 19, but most of his action came late in the game, and the Colts are actively trying to shop him. His 2 YPC average didn’t help his cause.
- TE Mo Alie-Cox was the Colts TE du jour on Sunday, catching 2 TDs for 42 yards. TE Jack Doyle only had 1 catch for 24 yards. The TE situation seems fluid in Indy these, But MAC is the best talent of the group. He could offer streaming value moving forward if this role sticks.
- To say RB Malcolm Brown led the Dolphins backfield would be an overstatement, as he gained only 27 yards on 9 touches, but he did out-touch RB Myles Gaskin by 7 touches – RB Salvon Ahmed had 5 touches. This is a backfield situation to avoid right now.
- Even with WR Will Fuller on the field, DeVante Parker(9 tgt, 4 rec, 77 yards, 1 TD) was still the no.1 WR in Miami in Week 4. Fuller injured his hand in the 2nd quarter and had to leave the game, so he’s probably out again this week. What a waste. I’ve said it every week, but Parker needs to be owned in all formats.
Chiefs – 42 @ Eagles – 30
- RB Darrel Williams had 12 touches to Clyde Edward-Helaire’s 16 on Sunday, for 58 yards and a TD. Last week, Williams saw 9 touches, so his role continues to remain significant as the Chiefs lean on the run. This is more of a bummer for CEH owners than it is a reason to add Williams, but he can definitely be picked up in deeper formats.
- Go pick up WR Josh Gordon if you haven’t yet. No WR besides Tyreek Hill is offering him much competition for targets.
- WR Jalen Reagor only saw 1 target on Sunday, after leading the team in targets(8) last week. Maybe the Eagles didn’t like the coverage, but it’s a disconcerting sign. At best, Reagor is an inconsistent fantasy option right now. WR Quez Watkins had 7 targets on the day behind DeVonta Smith, but he did little with them(3 rec, 33 yards).
- TE Zach Ertz had 8 targets for 6 receptions and 60 yards. This is his second straight game with 7+ targets, so he deserves a long look as a streamer this week against Carolina.
- RB Kenneth Gainwell out-gained Miles Sanders 89 to 47 yards on Sunday, in addition to adding a TD. He also had 9 touches to Sanders 10 on the day. Sanders has been middling with the Eagles going pass-heavy in come from behind situations the past few weeks, and with CAR and TB coming up, I don’t expect that to change. Gainwell needs to be added where you can get him.
Giants – 27 @ Saints – 21
- With WRs Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton sidelined in Week 4, rookie WR Kadarius Toney flourished, catching 6 of 8 targets for 78 yards – But then, so did Kenny Golladay(7 tgt, 6 rec, 116 yards) and newly activated John Ross(4 tgt, 3 rec, 77 yards, 1 TD). We’ll need to wait and see about the status of Shepard and Slayton before making any drastic moves, but Toney and Ross are speculative adds in deeper formats. Collin Johnson can be dropped if you added him to your roster last week.
- QB Daniel Jones put up his 2nd 30 pointer in 3 weeks on Sunday, and he needs to be owned and started in most formats.
- TE Evan Engram had 5 catches for 27 yards on Sunday in his 2nd straight game with 6 targets. Engram is getting consistent looks, but he’s doing little with them at this point. There are more intriguing options on the wire.
- WR Deonte Harris led the Saints in targets(8) on Sunday, though Marquez Callaway led in yards(74). Callaway is the better bet to have fantasy relevance this week against Washington.
- TE Juwan Johnson caught a TD this week, but he isn’t getting enough looks to warrant consideration outside of the deepest of leagues.
Browns – 14 @ Vikings – 7
- The Browns are able to rely almost exclusively on their running game, so there will be days like this for their pass-catchers. Only one player topped 27 yards and it was WR Rashard Higgins – 63 yards on 7 targets. ODB had 7 targets as well but did little with them. The Browns play a talented Chargers secondary this week, so it might be more of the same.
- Dalvin Cook seems to have reaggravated his ankle injury before halftime on Sunday, ceding 10 carries to Alexander Mattison who picked up 20 yards. In what should be a less competitive game with the Lions this week, don’t be surprised if Cook sits this one out.
- WR KJ Osborn was back in the mix with 7 targets on Sunday, and TE Tyler Conklin was right behind him with 6. Neither did much in the box score, but both could be in line for major work this week against Detroit, especially if Dalvin Cook sits.
Texans – 0 @ Bills – 40
- The Texans hit rock bottom yesterday, getting skunked in Buffalo. Davis Mills is woefully unprepared to play in the NFL, and the only Houston related fantasy start should be the opposing defense as long as he’s under center.
- TE Dawson Knox had his 3rd straight game with a TD on Sunday – He actually had 2 that day. Only owned in 47% of leagues, Knox needs to be owned and started in all formats until otherwise noted.
- WR Emmanuel Sanders(5 rec, 74 yards) may have eclipsed Cole Beasley as the no. 2 in Buffalo. In any case, he needs to be owned in most formats as he gets increasingly comfortable in the Buffalo passing attack.
Panthers – 28 @ Cowboys – 36
- We got a rare Robby Anderson(11 tgt, 5 rec, 46 yards) sighting this week, as the Panthers did everything they could to catch up to the Cowboys on Sunday. There’s a good chance this week’s tilt with the Eagles is another shootout, so perhaps Anderson deserves another shot.
- RB Rodney Smith caught 5 balls out of the backfield for Carolina for 48 yards. The 3rd highest target getter for Carolina on Sunday, Smith makes for an intriguing flex in deep PPR formats this week.
- TE Dalton Schult had another great game Sunday, catching 6 of 8 for 58 yards and a TD. Surprisingly owned in only 38% of leagues, Schultz should be a starter in most formats.
- WR Cedric Wilson and WR TE Blake Jarwin both caught TDs as well, but they only had 2 and 3 targets a piece.
Washington – 34 @ Falcons – 30
- Jd Mckissic bounced back Sunday with a 12 tou, 59 yard, 1 TD game against the Falcons. The bad news was also that it was against the Falcons. Even so, he’s worth a look against a bad/good Saints team this week in PPR formats.
- WR Curtis Samuel made his debut on Sunday, catching all 4 of his targets for 19 yards. With TE Logan Thomas and WR Dyami Brown both leaving the game with injuries, Samuel could be in for significant looks this week against NO. TE Ricky Seals-Jones is the next up at TE.
- WR/RB Cordarrelle Peterson is rendering Mike Davis useless in the ATL backfield, as Patterson is more effective in the air and often on the ground. Wayne Gallman also saw 6 touches for more rushing yards(29) than Davis(14) on Sunday. Davis saved his day with a TD, and that’s what you’re going to have to hope for out of him moving forward.
- QB Matt Ryan had his best game of the season on Sunday, throwing 4 TDs for 283 yards. He’ll have another juicy matchup against the Jets this week, so make sure he’s back in your lineup.
Lions – 14 @ Bears – 24
- Unsurprisingly, a different WR led the Lions in targets(8) on Sunday. Amon-Ra St. Brown caught 6 of those for 70 yards, but Kalif Raymond caught 2 TDs and Quintez Cephus led in yards. They’re all better daily options than league long options, as there seems to be a game of musical chairs going on. They’re all upshot PPR options in what should be a passing oriented game with MIN this week.
- The Bears don’t want to let QB Justin Fields run, and as long as that’s going on, I don’t want to have much to do with Justin Fields.
- WR Darnell Mooney has 7 or more targets in 3 of 4 games thus far, and he led the team with 125 of Chicago’s 209 passing yards on Sunday. Owned in only 38% of leagues, he’s soaking up targets as teams focus on Allen Robinson, Chicago’s best player.
- RB Damien Williams put up 70 yards and a TD in relief of David Montgormery, who seems to have avoided an ACL tear on Sunday. Williams should be added in all formats while we wait to see if and how long Montgomery will be out.
Titans – 24 @ Jets – 27
- WR Josh Reynolds saw 9 targets for 6 catches and 59 yards on Sunday, but Chester Rogers led in yards(63). Nick Westbrook-Ikhine had 8 targets for just 29 yards. Cameron Batson scored the 1 TD of the lot though on 4 targets. It’ll be another crapshoot if neither AJ Brown or Julio Jones can go this week versus Jacksonville. I suppose Reynolds would be worth a look in deeper leagues if it comes to that for you.
- The Jets got their first win with RB Michael Carter(14 tou, 34 yards, 1 TD) leading the backfield, so I”m hoping that gives him a leg up on his competition for this week. At only 50% ownership, he needs to be on most 12 team and larger rosters.
- WR Jamison Crowder saw his first action of the season, gaining 61 yards and a TD on 9 targets. His addition sent Braxton Berrios back to irrelevancy, while Keelan Cole filled in for a confused Elijah Moore. Only Crowder should is a priority right now, as Moore should get his starting job back when he’s healthy, which could be this week.
Cardinals – 37 @ Rams – 20
- AJ Green is still unowned in 75% of leagues, even after scoring or going over 100 yards in his last 3 games. He’s found new life in Arizona and needs to be owned in most formats.
- TE Maxx Williams fell to earth in Week 3, but he bounced back in Week 4 against LA with 5 catches for 66 yards and a TD. He’s averaging 5 targets a game since week 2, even in a crowded Arizona passing game. He makes for a decent streamer against the 49ers this week.
- Sony Michel(3 tou, 11 yards) dropped off the map in Week 4, with Darrell Henderson back at full speed and a negative game script for the Rams. He’s not a factor unless Henderson gets hurt again.
- WR Van Jefferson put up 90 yards and a TD on 6 catches Sunday, to tie Robert Woods at 2nd in targets(6). He could see similar volume against a lame Seattle secondary this week.
Seahawks – 28 @ 49ers – 21
- RB Alex Collins came out of nowhere on Sunday to get 12 touches for 77 yards and a TD in a split with Chris Carson. It’s too early to say if this will continue, but Collins needs to be added in deeper formats in the meantime.
- Mohamed Sanu saw his 2nd week of 5 or more targets on Sunday, to gather 35 yards on 4 catches. He’s running as the no.2 WR in SF right now, which isn’t saying much.
- QB Trey Lance took over for an injured Jimmy Garoppolo Sunday, and though he didn’t pull off a win, his 20+ point game has fantasy eyebrows raised everywhere. Lance needs to be owned in all formats as a plug and play with a built in floor, while Jimmy G is out.
Steelers – 17 @ Packers – 27
- WR James Washington 69 yards on 4 receptions Sunday, with Chase Claypool sidelined. Even if Claypool isn’t available this week, Washington makes for a longshot to have fantasy relevance against Denver this week.
- RB Aaron Jones was dealing with an ankle injury in Week 4, so AJ Dillon matched him in carries(15) this week, picking up 81 yards in the process. Should Jones have any setbacks this week, Dillon would be an RB1 against Cincy this week.
- With Marquez Valdes-Scantling out for Week 4, Randall Cobb picked up the slack, catching 2 TDs in addition to picking up 69 yards. MVS is on IR, so Cobb could be in for several more productive outings.
- TE Robert Tonyan had 7 targets on the day, but he continues to disappoint in fantasy. He doesn’t need to be held in fantasy, as he’s been too dependent on TDs.
Ravens – 23 @ Broncos – 7
- Latavius Murray was the decisive leader of the Ravens backfield in Week 4, logging 18 carries to just 4 and 1 for Le’Veon Bell and Devonta Freeman. Ty’Son Williams was inactive and seems to be phased out of the offense for now. Murray is the only Ravens back worth owning right now.
- The Ravens seem committed to spreading the ball out this season with 5 players getting 5 or more targets. Sammy Watkins led the pack with 7, and he’s the only WR other than Marquise Brown to be trifled with for now and only in PPR formats.
- The Broncos had a down day offensively, with only Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick and Noah Fant seeing more than 3 targets on a day when Teddy Bridgewater left after being concussed. They’re all high upside low floor plays this week against the Steelers, as Drew Lock has an arm albeit an erratic one.
Buccaneers – 19 @ Patriots – 17
- Even with Gio Bernard sitting, Ronald Jones only played 17% of snaps, though he did score. He’s a low upside play this week against the Dolphins.
- TE Cameron Brate saw 6 targets in Rob Gronkowski‘s stead on Sunday night, 5 more than OJ Howard and Codey McElroy. He’ll be a solid play against Miami this week, if Gronk can’t suit up.
- RB JJ Taylor lost the ball at a terrible time on Sunday night, so I’d be surprised if he sees the field at all this week. Brandon Bolden caught 6 passes for 51 yards and is the best bet to take James White‘s targets moving forward, along with Damien Harris, who ran a slew of routes, catching 2 passes. Rhamondre Stevenson could also work into the mix while Taylor sits in the doghouse.
- WR Kendrick Bourne(5 rec, 58 yards) is inching his way to the no.2 WR role in New England. He’ll be a upside flex option against the Texans this week.

12 team 0.5 PPR. I’m 1-3 and starting to get worried. My team has failed to reach 100 in 3 of 4 weeks (this week only 80). I feel like my team is solid but it clearly isn’t performing. I will say one issue is my kicker and defense combining for about 3-6 points each week. Not ideal.
QB: Cousins
WR: Jefferson, Godwin, Sutton, Hollywood, Boyd, Ruggs, Shepard
RB: Kamara, Carson, Jrob, Drake
TE: Pitts
Basically underperforming every week. Tried to trade Carson last week as well as Robinson, couldn’t get anyone to bite. Basically just looking for advice. Is it time to liquidate? Wait for waiver sheet and trade cast for the week? 1-3 not too bad just yet, hold the line?
Thanks RW. Best of luck to anyone battling tonight
Solid squad. Sounds like you need a better starting lineup- but not because a shortage of options. I think this team hs better days ahead, but def think you should attempt to consolidate for another elite buy low player w/ a good schedule this wk. Don’t have to go crazy though. With this team, I have a feeling it’s probably been tough to make all the correct sit / starts b/c you have such solid WR depth- Would have been money last wk to trade Carson and one of those WR — maybe you’ll get another crack this wk. Solid team though- Cousins has a nice matchups incoming this wk 🙂
It’s definitely been a little difficult, but even with optimal lineups, I’m 1-3 lol . Going to try to and keep consolidating. The Carson dud hurts. And do NOT like how Godwin was used yesterday. Hollywood looking like must start material though. Appreciate the advice, better weeks ahead
How are you in the standings w/ “points against” – have you had some bad fortune there? Keep Grinding! Get a win this week and you will feel much better
Nothing egregious in Points Against. Probably headed to lowest Points For after this week though haha. I’m not overly worried, hoping to get a decent RB pickup through waivers and make a trade.
Try to grab Damien Williams
Barber or Jacobs tonight?
Herbert
Cook, D. montgomery, J. Robinson, M. Gordon, and M. Carter
Evans, D. Johnson, Sanders, R. Moore
Fant.
Sitting in first place boys
Thanks for all the preseason analytics , draftcheat sheet and in season tools.
both my RB 1 and 2 got injured, I would love to consolidate but i feel like i lost a lot of my RB depth .
consolidate or try and trade cook to get two good players
ie cook for gibson and lamb
Stay tuned TradeCast might come a little early this wk!
Oh lord if you could get Gibson + Lamb I would do that in “two shakes of a lamb’s tail”
Major Disaster .5 pt 3-1 w most points in 12 team league
Should I drop either Z. Moss, or L. Murray for D Williams from waivers? Thinking rest of season since I have D. Henry, A. Eckler, D. Swift, K. Hunt.
Also thinking of adding J Jeudy from waivers but would have to drop one D Mooney, M Gallup or J Fields (I have T. McLauren, J. Jones, A Brown, Marq Brown, Dev Smith, M Stafford)
Thank you Rosterwatch for the ultimate draft sheet!
I would 100 percent add Jeudy right away and stash him. Yeah I’d def consider dropping Latavius for Williams if you can get Williams into your starting lineup!
I can pick up 49ers RB Elijah Mitchell but would have to drop Aiyuk. What do you think?
RBs Elliot, Hunt, Robinson, Gaskin, Jamaal Williams
WRs AJ Brown, Justin Jefferson, M. Williams, Tee Higgins, Aiyuk
No definitive word that I see yet today- but if Lance is going to be ushered in I’d roll w/ Mitchell. If it looks like Jimmy G will be back soon as the starter I think this is really close and just depends on which position you need the help at more. Overall, I might lean Mitchell by a hair- but it’s all speculative
With Mixon being dinged up a little bit would you give up C. Patterson to get him, or do you all feel that Patterson will keep the momentum going?
I would probably do it and take my chances on Mixon – traditionally that would be the correct move- albeit Cordarrelle could just be a unicorn this season. I think if you can do that you go for it if you are comfortable w/ Mixon’s injury status which didn’t sound too bad the last 24 hr
My team in 12 team standard (4-0)
QB’s: Murray, Fields RB’s: Zeke, Carson, Jacobs, Devonte Williams WR’s: Chase, McLaurin, Diontae Johnson, ARob, Aiyuk TE: Tonyan
Would you drop Fields or Aiyuk to pickup Damien Williams?
Thinking I can then make a trade offer to someone to upgrade my TE.
Lat Murray is also availabe
Yes I would
Damien Williams or Lat Murray?
Greetings RW nation — would you drop Damien Harris for Damien Williams ? I could also drop the WFT since I also have the Bucs D. Thanks.
If I can’t get Williams should I drop Harris for Gainwell thanks
I would do the same thing for Gainwell- drop WFT- try to roster both RBs. Do not drop Damien Harris
I would drop WFT and try to own both of those RBs
Would you guys trade CEH and Thielen (two sells from last week) for Jonathan Taylor and Devonta Smith (two buys from last week). If so, would we prefer Arob over Devonta? Thanks!
I would look at the schedules and upcoming matchups. These types of trades don’t make a lot of sense unless one party is getting one over on the other- or somebody is having a bye week nightmare. There is no clear winner- unless somehow this makes your starting lineup more competitive.- but in a vacuum these are difficult trades to judge
I was offered Ceedee Lamb for Keenan Allen in a PPR league, should I accept? I also have Kupp, Sutton, Meyers, and Antonio Brown. There’s also a 5 pt bonus for exceeding 100 yards.
Same as above- look at the upcoming schedules and matchups
Makes sense, thanks Byron!
i won’t sugarcoat this…. That was a terrible week for your dfs rankings sheet. The positive? it can’t really get any worse! good luck this week
Haha really?
Dak Henry Montgomery Moore Hill Mooney Fant Shultz all won me money.
Look within green pea.
Yea, there were a few that did well. I guess I try leaning towards the players that are at the top of the ranking list as opposed to the middle/lower tier of players. Maybe I’m putting too much trust at the first couple players listed, thinking those are the best plays.
There are many factors in play… and yes there will be weeks we all lose.
Contest choices. How many different lineups you using.
Are you being too risky or too conservative. Do you play h2h 50/50 or gpp?
Maybe Alex can spend a few minutes about this on the blitz with the boys for a few minutes this week?
My main thing is I’m in DK leagues that run thurs-mon. I use the sheet religiously, along with the podcast, it’s great. I’m missing out on many players only having access to main slate. I choose my team from main slate only getting the best I can by fitting in top three on position list any way possible. I would vote yes for a cheat sheet including all games (excluding Thursday)
Thanks for the response above Byron. I do need some advice with this team though. I’m 3-1, but injuries are stacking up (Jeudy, CMC, Montgomery) and feel like I need to make a move for a RB. See team below.
Russell
CEH
AJ Dillon
Thielen
Pittman
Fant
Meyers
Bench – Montgomery, Julio, Ty’son (droppable?), Claypool, Shephard, CMC, Jeudy (IR)
Feel like I could level up some receivers for a starting RB? Maybe CMC comes back this week, but I doubt it. Damien Williams is already rostered.
Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks!
At 3-1 stay the course no need to panic… obviously hard to trade for a RB1.
Maybe a Perine Or Gainwell helps you out short term.
Does the Jones owner have a RB3 you can swap Dillon for?
Thanks Frank. He’s got Edmonds and Damien Harris so gonna try Dillon plus something to get one of those two. The tough thing in this league is only 5 bench spots, so I have CMC and Jeudy in my IR already and don’t even have a DEF in. Really think I need to pull off a 2 for 1 to open up a spot.
I’d give up Mclaurin and Carson and get back Amari Cooper and Johnathan Taylor. 1ppr would you do that trade?
Yooo what’s up playas!!! I’m about to offer T Maclaurin and Cordarelle for D Adams and David Montgomery. You guys like that deal? Hes crushed at RB so he’s gonna take, I love it just want the Gurus blessing!!10 team ppr I am 4-0. My sqaud:
Elite Dominator$
QBs: Hurts and T Lance
RBs: A Jones, Zeke, D Swift, Cordarelle, Damien Harris and M Carter
WRs: K Allen T Maclaurin Julio Jones, Claypool
TEs: Knox and Goedert
D: Patriots
K: McManus
