Trashman’s Sits and Starts: Week 2

Fantasy Plays: Week 2

It’s Week 2 of the fantasy season, and pandemonium is already seeping in. Take a deep breath, calm your mind, and delve into these prime fantasy plays as we prepare to enter the Week 2 fantasy fray…

Quarterbacks

Start:

Matthew Stafford at Cardinals

Yes, Stafford may be without last year’s fantasy cheat code, Puka Nacua, this week, but that’s OK because Cooper Kupp is back! When healthy, there really isn’t a more reliable target in football than Kupp, and Stafford has him locked in against a Cardinals team that just gave up 4 TDs to Josh Allen and the Bills. :

Other locks:

Avoid:

Bryce Young, Panthers vs. Chargers

Young and the Panthers offense seem to have picked up right where they left off last season, and that’s not a good thing. Despite there being more weapons at his disposal, Young floundered in Week 1, throwing for just 161 yards for a 1 TD and 2 INTs against the Saints. The outlook isn’t much better this week against a Chargers team that held Gardner Minshew to just around 10 fantasy points in most formats.

Running Backs

Start:

J.K. Dobbins at Panthers

What a difference a year makes. Dobbins asserted that he was back to his old self this preseason, but I don’t know if anyone took him seriously. Dobbins either shut or gaped the mouths of his naysayers in Week 1, when he gouged the Raiders for 135 yards on the ground. He’ll get ample opportunities to produce this week against a Panthers defense that is next to league worse against the run.

Other locks:

Avoid:

Javonte Williams vs Steelers

Williams lost quite a bit of work in Week 1 to Jaleel McLaughlin, who is more of an asset in the passing game. McLaughlin out touched Williams 15 to 9 against a Seahawks defense that was 31st against the run in 2023. Neither back was very effective, but Williams was especially ineffective. He’ll stand to get more touches this week, but he’s still not a strong play, no matter how you slice it.

Wide Receivers

Start:

Jameson Williams vs Buccaneers

I felt a sea change in regards to Williams when he unleashed against the 49ers in last year’s NFC Championship, and he’s on the same track to start the 2024 season. In Week 1, Williams boomed for 121 yards and a TD, adding a 13 yard run in for good measure. He’ll compete with Amon-Ra St. Brown and Sam LaPorta for looks, but the cat is out of the bag.

Other locks:

Avoid:

Marvin Harrison Jr. vs Rams

Harrison was virtually invisible in Week 1 against the Bills, catching 1 of 3 targets for just 4 yards on the day. We expect some growing pains for rookies, but this guy is supposed to be a generational talent. I fully expect Harrison Jr. to acclimate himself to the NFL game, but I want to see him do it at least once, before I risk another fantasy outing like that.

Tight Ends

Trey McBride vs Rams

Second in TE targets(9) to only Isaiah Likely in Week 1, McBride was the main cog in the Cardinals passing game versus the Bills. This tracks, as he played a similar role when I watched joint practices between the Cardinals and Colts in training camp. He has a top ten matchup with the Rams this week.

Other locks:

Avoid:

Mark Andrews vs Raiders

Maybe Andrews is in for some course correction this week, after getting only 2 targets in Isaiah Likely’s coming out party last Thursday, but is that a chance you want to take in fantasy? Likely is very likely to remain a primary target for Lamar Jackson this week, and though this could be the rare offense that can support 2 TEs on a weekly basis, it would be prudent to fade Andrews until we see him flourish.

  1. 12 team PPR; 1-0

    [1] QB: AR
[2] RB: Hall, Henry (Brooks, Dowdle, Perine)
[2] WR: Evans, Waddle (Hollywood Brown, JSN, Shaheed)
    [1] TE: Ertz
    [2] W/R/T: Pacheco, Javonte Williams
    [1] IR: Hockenson
    Bench total: (6)

    1) Should I drop Perine and/or Dowdle for any of the following:
    A. Mitchell (someone dropped him today), Bigsby, Legette, Dortch, Pierce, R. Davis, Herbert, Mooney?

    2) Should I hold Perine/Dowdle and open up another roster spot by dropping Hock and putting Brooks on IR instead? We only have one IR spot unfortunately.

    1. 1. Mitchell and Bigsby 2. you can hold Dowdle, but I wouldn’t drop Hock

Rosterwatch – I need a WR pick up (we use TEs as WRs and don’t have a separate TE position). The best available tight ends are Bowers and Likely and the available WRs are largely garbage. Who should I prioritize?

    1. I’d roll the dice on Bowers ROS but he or likely would be great to add.

  3. Jaylen wright on waiver , how much fab should I go out and spend on him

    1. can probably get him somewhere around 10%

  4. Hello RW
Who would you guys rather have Hubbard or Corum?
    Thanks

    1. Hubbard, unless it’s a dynasty/keeper league

  5. Post By brentonlundquist@yahoo.com

Would you trade JK Dobbins for Isiah Likely?
    Full PPR
I have Freiermuth as my current TE
I have Derrick Henry, James Conner, Javonte Williams, Rico Dowdle, Bucky Irving and Ray Davis as current RB’s

    Thanks

    1. I’d want to see Likely do it again before making that trade. Andrews might get some course correction this week

  6. Would you pick up Colby Parkinson and drop Engram ?

  7. Full PPR: Keon Coleman, Gus Edwards and Trey Spears who would you rather have for the rest of the season. I’m pretty set at both WR and RB. I currently have Gus Edwards but someone dropped Keon and Trey..
Or would you drop someone else on my roster. Rico, McLaughlin, J Wright.
    Thanks RW

  8. If Achane can’t go, does Jaylen Wright have any value this week in a PPR league?

    1. He could, but you have to consider Jeff Wilson as well. It’s spotty at best

  9. Rashee Rice, Olave, Etienne, Dobbins, – I need 1WR/1RB/1FLEX for PPR.

  10. Good morning. Would you drop Kirk or Worthy to pick up Keenan Allen? PPR.

    Thanks

  11. 10 Team PPR Play 1 QB 2 RB 3 WR 1 TE 1 Flex
    QB K Murray
WR THill, JWaddle, MEvans, TDell, XWorthy
RB TEtienne, DAchane, JConnor, Jordan Mason, BCorum, JWright
    TE KPitts
    Def NYJets
    K JSanders

Who do I start tonight and this week?
need 2 RB, 3 WR and a Flex (5 Players, PPR) from:
WR THill, JWaddle, MEvans, TDell, XWorthy
RB TEtienne, DAchane, JConnor, Jordan Mason, BCorum, JWright
What if Achane does not play?
What if CMC does not play?

Additionally: a league mate panicked and dropped RMostert
Should I try to pick him up, is that too many Miami players, would I drop Wright for him (or Corum)?

  12. Looking for some advice with a trade I got offered — is there any deal where you would trade away AJ BROWN? (The other guy seems motivated to get Brown)

AJ Brown for Sam LaPorta & Christian Kirk

Or is my team ok I just need to Stream TE’s throughout the year — too early to panic?

    My Team:
    QB – J. Hurts
    RB – I. Pacheco / J. Cook / Z. White / J. Warren / Justice Hill
    WR – AJ Brown / T. McLaurin / Keenan Allen / J. Addison / D. Wicks / Jameson Williams
    TE – L. Schoonmaker

    His Team:
    QB – D. Prescott
    RB – B. Hall / K. Walker / T. Benson / A. Mattison / Z. Moss
    WR – G. Pickens / Marvin Harrison Jr. / C. Kirk / D. Robinson / Christian Watson
    TE – S. LaPorta / I. Likely

  13. Would you trade away Godwin and Freiermuth for Kittle? My other receivers are St. Brown, Nabers, Pickens, Kirk, Sutton, and Mike Williams. PPR. Thanks!
