Underdog Best Ball Series 2.0: Rookie ADPs

The NFL Draft is in the books so we finally know how everyone values rookies! The top RBs from this draft class Breece Hall and Kenneth Walker unfortunately did not land in the most opportune spots for Fantasy Football but will still have opportunity to shine from the get go. Breece Hall will share work with Michael Carter and Kenneth Walker will share the workload with Rashad Penny as well as Chris Carson when he returns from his injury.

In my most recent Best Ball Draft I picked at the tail end of the 1st round with Pick 11 which I didn’t like but started with a WR/WR start once again with Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill. I believe there is a sweet spot for RBs in Rounds 3 and 4 so I took two stud WRs.

I do worry about Tyreek Hill since he is no longer with Patrick Mahomes and I could regret this 2nd round pick in the fall.

One of the glaring ADP risers was Leonard Fournette who was taken in the middle of the third round only a week after I was able to grab him in the middle of the 4th round and sometimes he was falling into the 5th round as well. Rookie RB Breece Hall went in the 4th round but I can see that ADP rising as the off-season goes on and Kenneth Walker was the first pick of the 7th round.

The first rookie I pounced on was Dameon Pierce with the 2nd pick in Round 6. He might have the most opportunity to be the lead back out of all the rookie RBs because of the lack of RB depth on the Texans where their only RBs are veterans Marlon Mack and Rex Burkhead. As my third RB, Pierce could develop into a borderline RB2 this season.

The draft got me too excited so I got rookie WR hungry. Can you blame me? I drafted Skyy Moore, George Pickens, John Metchie and Alec Pierce. Since I have two stud WRs at the beginning I felt like I could afford to take a shot on Rookie WRs. Skyy Moore gets to play with arguable the best QB in the game with Patrick Mahomes and there is clear opportunity for John Metchie and Alec Pierce to immediately become the number two WR option on their teams.

I failed to grab a stud TE in my previous best ball so didn’t want to make the same mistake this time around so Dallas Goedert joined my roster in the 7th round. I actually think the arrival of A.J. Brown is an advantage for Goedert because he will absolutely feast on the underneath routes and on 3rd downs. He cemented himself as Jalen Hurts favorite target last season and in a run-heavy offense he will continue to be THE guy for Hurts.

I did handcuff my Pierce choice from early on with Marlon Mack so I have a stronghold on the Texans backfield, even though handcuffing is not always viewed as optimal in best ball. You could see a scenario where both of these players experience spike weeks as the backfield assimilates, though.
