RWi Week 16 Matchup Tool

Week 16 Fantasy Football Matchup Tool
Alex Dunlap, Rosterwatch.com

This is a weekly tool provided by RosterWatch.

It is designed to be a decision-making tie-breaker for gauging the defensive opponents your fantasy players face.

The rankings represented here are derived via a proprietary algorithm which takes into account not only standard “fantasy points against” metrics, but also weighted averages of separate individual player scouting grades for members of the unit that will be defending, pass rushing, or covering against the position in question.

To use the tool, think about your fantasy player.

Let’s say you own Bears RB Matt Forte, and would like to see how he matches up against the defense he faces this week.

First look at the Bears’ matchup for the week, and see what the number is inside the “vs. RBs” cell for their opponent.

(Forte is an RB, and you would like to know his opponent’s rank vs. that position.)

As you will see, the Bears are playing the Arizona Cardinals, who have a big, blue ‘No. 1’ in their “vs. RBs” cell. This is a great indicator for LeShoure owners.

Repeat the same process for other players on your roster as you are trying to decide which players to start and which to sit.

“1″ is the best matchup, “32″ is the worst.

BLUE: Top 10 Best Matchup
LIGHT BLUE: Borderline Top 10 Matchup
LIGHT RED: Borderline Bottom 10 Matchup
RED: 10 Worst Matchups

The * column next to each “vs. (Position)” cell indicates the way the positional group defending the position in question has been trending over the previous five weeks. Negative numbers indicate decline in performance against the position in question and are marked in blue (big falloffs) and light blue (smaller falloffs). Conversely, defensive position groupings who have are trending towards improvement as a unit are noted with positive numbers, and marked in red (big defensive improvements to the group/scheme) or light red (less significant indicators, but trending towards becoming a tougher matchup.)
