Fred Davis

Who is Fred Davis?

Who?
Fred Davis is a sleeper TE that may still be on your waiver wire but won’t be for much longer. He is of premium athletic stock being a former 2nd Team All American and All PAC-10 at USC. He had a terrific senior year posting almost 900 yard and 8 TDs in 13 games. Statistically he was a bit of a one year college wonder but he projected well to the NFL. Somewhat confusing as were a lot of things during the Jim Zorn era; the Washington Redskins drafted Davis in the 2nd round in 2008 even though they already had a solid receiving TE in Chris Cooley.

What are his Fantasy Prospects?
Good and rising! Fred Davis is also heavily endorsed by our very own Fantasy Trashman, Dorian Colbert, which is ALWAYS a good sign!

Why?
He has shown flashes as a terrific NFL receiver only to be stymied in the past by the transitions and inconsistencies in Washington. Now a veteran player and in Mike Shanahan’s system for a second year Davis will flourish. Shanahan’s offenses have traditionally been very pass heavy to the TE (Shannon Sharpe, Tony Scheffler) and Chris Cooley seems to be diminishing over the years. The Redskins are also weak at WR and lack any type of possession receiver. Grossman needs playmakers and a safety blanket and that is where Fred Davis steps in. Already posting 105 yards in week 1 of the 2011 season Davis is poised for a breakout year in a high scoring division. I would not be surprised if he becomes a top 12 TE by mid-season so grab him now!
