The AFC Champions head into 2014 with an estimated $11M in salary cap space. Not bad, with almost $18M of that going to Frankenstein and his Star Wars offense. Elder statesman DB Champ Bailey and his $10M cap hit will likely be cut or restructured coming into 2014, leaving the Broncos in a pretty good financial situation for a championship-caliber team.

Here are the other free agents and potential cuts GM John Elway will be considering in his offseason plans who could have a fantasy impact:

Free Agents:

Knowshon Moreno (RB)- UFA
Eric Decker (WR)- UFA
Andre Caldwell (WR)- UFA

** Non-fantasy FAs include- Wes Woodyard (LB), Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (CB), Shaun Phillips (LB), Zane Beadles (OG)

Potential Cuts or Restructures:

Wes Welker (WR)- Julius Thomas has established himself as the premiere target between the hash marks in Denver. The Broncos could save $6M against the 2014 cap by cutting the aging – and often concussed – slot receiver. $8M on the books is too much – and Patriots owner Robert Kraft told you so. The money might be better spent on securing the long-term services of young guys like Eric Decker and Julius Thomas. Certainly, with Manning’s water gun arm – and rapidly closing window – the Broncos may want to keep their version of Lord Dark Helmet on the field, running routes within 10 yards of Frankenstein for one more run at the title.
Welker Helmet

Jacob Tamme (TE)- He had 20 receptions for 184 yards in 2013. He’s not worth $3.5M. The Broncos will look at cutting him to save $3M against the 2014 cap.

Joel Dreesen (TE)– If Tamme isn’t worth three-and-a-half, Dreesen and his 7 receptions for 47 yards certainly aren’t worth $3.2M. He’s likely out, in an effort for the Broncos to clear up an easy $2.5M in cap space.

Ronnie Hillman (RB)– The Broncos actions this year showed us what they really think of Ronnie Hillman. It’s exactly what we think. He stinks. Depending on what happens with the Broncos backfield in free agency, lopping Hillman off the roster will always be an enticing way for Elway to clear an easy $500K off the books.
