RosterWatch Waiver Wire Cheat Sheet: Week 4

This is a weekly tool provided by RosterWatch.

Byron Byline Winning fantasy football means being active on the weekly waiver wire. You have to be, as the season morphs before our very eyes from week to week in dramatic fashion. It’s nearly impossible to go coast to coast in any competitive league with the team you drafted. What this means is, every week you need to identify the unproductive garbage at the bottom of your roster- and exchange those players for the hottest new pickups of the week. Often times these free agent acquisitions end up being valuable commodities that can change the course of your season.

The RosterWatch Waiver Wire Cheat Sheet is a weekly tool that will help you easily navigate this process, with expert results guaranteed. Researching free agent pickups can be mind-numbing and time consuming, so we’ve done all the work for you with this simple one page document. Use it exactly like the Draft Cheat Sheet- start at the top and work your way to the bottom.

All players in the tool are less than 50% owned across all major fantasy leagues. Many of them may even be had for free on Wednesday morning after waivers run. Please post any questions about the player rankings within this tool in the comments section below.

  1. Sankey got dropped and is on the waiver wire this week… I thought he looked pretty good against the Bengals, how much would you spend on him? I”m lacking depth at running back due to Ray Rice being cut and MJD hurt.

    1. We think Sankey’s in line for an uptick. I’ll bet he would be above Donald Brown on the sheet if he was less than 50 percent owned. Given your situation, I’d likely put in a bid of up to 50% with the RBs you have. GL.

  2. Drop Terrance Williams or Gerhart to pick up Donald Brown from Waivers?

    1. With Mathews scheduled back in 2-3 weeks, we think both players you are thinking about dropping will hold more sustainable value through the season than Donald Brown will.

  3. Trent Richardson is available in my league, and I’m #1 on the waiver wire. With Bradshaw prone to injury, is he worth picking up over potential breakouts like Taliaferro?

    1. Bethany, I like Richardson over Taliaferro. He’s still out carrying Bradshaw, maybe undeservedly so, and the Colts are intent on getting their money’s worth out of him as long as he’s healthy. Taliaferro is still going to be behind Pierce when he gets back.

  4. Hey guys,

I’m in a 10 team, standard scoring league and I wanted to get your opinion on a couple of trade possibilities. I have Matt Ryan, Rob Gronkowski, and am stacked with receivers (Calvin Johnson, Brandon Marshall, Emmanuel Sanders, Mike Wallace, Kelvin Benjamin, and Torrey Smith). However my backfield is very thin with Montee Ball (who’s on bye this week), Ryan Matthew (injured), Bishop Sankey, MJD, and Alfred Blue. I was wondering what your opinion would be on a trade, most likely Wallace and Sanders or Benjamin for Forte or Le’veon Bell. Or should I just weather the storm this week, keep my stud receivers, and hope that Ball gets in a rhythm and Sankey gets the starting job soon? There are a few decent guys on the waiver wire like Toby Gerhart, Matt Asiata, and Talliaferro I could pick up too.

Thanks guys and keep up the good work

    1. Smith would be someone I would be trying to move as well. If you can get a Forte or Bell, the Wallace and Sanders trade would be a fair option as well. I wouldn’t move Kelvin. Ball’s schedule is brutal from here on out, so I wouldn’t be counting on him. I would actually consider trading him as well, maybe for a Lacy who has a great schedule ahead. Each of those waiver pickups is rosterable. I like Asiata, Gerhart, and Taliaferro in that order.

  5. Which trade do you like better, I give up Gore and get Gordon, or give up Gore and Hawkins for Gordon and Ingram? I have McCoy, Ball, Jennings, Gore, Alshon, Roddy, Patterson, Cooks, Hawkins, Hunter, and Terrance Williams. The only reason I am considering the Ingram trade is because Ball(and McCoy) have been underwhelming so far. Thanks.

    1. I like the second trade. I like Hawkins, but I don’t see you using him much. It makes sense to bolster your rb corps.

  6. K guys im stumped on who 2 start talliferro, Donald brown asiata. Reggie bush or trent richardson pick 3 its a non ppr

Thanks guys always a big help

    1. Brown, Asiata, and Richardson. I like what Bush is doing, but he’s going up against the Jets this week.

  7. Josh gordon was priority one a fewweeks ago. I picked him up pre game12 news. I am debating droppjng him although ithink barring major injury I can swing it as my bye weeks are manageable. My team is matt ryan crabtree, cruz, demarco murray, leveon bell, flex doug martin, julius thomas 4 bench spots currently occupied by kelvin benjamin, joique bell, josh gordon, and michael floyd. Should I hold tough? Im woried about if one of my big running backs go down.

    1. I’m clinging to Gordon in every league I have him. He’s the definition of a game changer. If you’re not a believer , I would try trading him before I dropped him.

  8. I have Bernard Pierce and Justin Forsett. Should I drop Forsett to get Taliaferro? 12 team standard

    1. Yes, Forsett will be a compliment back regardless. Good luck

  9. Who is the better back to keep…Fred Jackson or CJ Spiller? Thanks.

    1. Jackson will be more consistent, but Spiller may have a higher ceiling. I trust Jackson more. I would try to trade Spiller before I dropped him though.
      -Trashman

  10. Which is the better back to pick up for the long haul…non-ppr. Donald Brown or Chris Ivory? Thanks.

  11. Would you drop Charles clay for Niles Paul or Larry Donnel at this point?

    1. Yo I’d drop Clay for him STAT. Trash man said clay is drop-able.

    2. Yeah, I would drop him for either player right now. He’s just not healthy.
      -Trashman

  12. 3-0 thanks to you guys! 12 Team Standard League:
    QB: Rodgers
RBs: Jennings, Ridley [T-Rich, Bradshaw and D. Brown]
WRs: Harvin, KELVIN [Roddy White (hopefully acquiring in pending trade for Sproles) and J. Hunter]
    TE: Graham
    FLEX: Gronk
I wanna drop Hunter and my kicker so in what order should I prioritize these guys: Evans, Ingram, Sankey, Cooper or Randle before I get to these other available guys on your cheatsheet Quick, DMC, Crowell, Blue? 10th waiver ..

    1. Evans, Sankey, Ingram, I wouldn’t drop Hunter for Cooper or Randle.

  13. Drop Gerhardt, j. Hunter, or kelce (have graham on same bye) for taliaferro, freeman, or blue? Also knowshon is out there

    1. we might drop kelce for blue if you’re never going to start him with graham in there anyway. GL

      1. Okay I did. It’s a shame, but it’s fine.

  14. Is it worth holding on to Darren Sproles as a handcuff to Mc Coy? Same for Kniles Davis?

  15. Who’s the better stash candidate? Knowshon, Mathews, or McKinnon

  16. Lorenzo T and Bishop Sankey on the wire, which one do I pick up? Other RBs are McCoy/Sproles, Brown/Mathews.

  17. I need 3 out of the 4 in a Standard Non PPR league

Donald Brown, Darren Sproles, Khiry Robinson, Trent Richardson

  18. Hey guys,

Thanks for the great waiver advice every week! Could use a little help with these tough decisions:

Would you drop Kirk Cousins if you could get Carson Palmer on waivers?

What Def is best to replace Denver for the rest of the year – Chargers, Texans, Falcons, Eagles, Lions, Vikes, Steelers, Browns?

Best waiver kicker to replace Phil Dawson – Suisham, Contanzaro, Carpenter, Folk, Zuerlein, Gano, Sturgis?

    1. – don’t drop cousins for anyone, especially not carson palmer, c’mon now.

      – we don’t replace defense “rest of year” – if you don’t have an every week starting defense, stream them.

      – suisham

      GL

      1. Hah – excellent advice as always. Thanks!

  19. I’m truly handcuffed in my 12 team PPR league do I roll with Cousins and Garçon or kaepernick and Crabtree. Is it a coin flip.

    1. robbaja-

This is a coin flip. We are going to roll with our Matchup Tool here. Go with the San Fran guys. Good luck.

  20. Would you drop Mathews to pick up Miller, Robinson or Taliaferro? I am 2-1 in a std 10 team non-ppr and have Gio Bernard and AJ Green on bye this week. I also have Carlos Hyde who I could drop.

    1. Jakeflip-

Assuming you are talking Jordan Matthews. Yes, we would drop him for Miller while Knowshon is out. Good luck.

  21. 12 team PPR league…have tough decision….need to drop one of these RB to pick up a TE ( J Thomas bye ) : A. Petersen..S. Greene..B. Sankey..K. Robinson..C.Hyde..My other RB are R Bush & L Miller.
I was thinking about holding onto AP but not sure if he’ll return and thus I picked up Sankey and Robinson on the past 2 waiver wires…my hope is that either Sankey or Greene will emerge…drafted Hyde with the thought as keeper for next year.

    Which RB should I drop?

    1. fazools-

Assuming you are saying if drop Hyde, you can’t keep him next year. We would probably drop Greene in that case and just cross your fingers on Sankey. Yes, hold AP at this point. Good luck.

  22. Would you drop Knile Davis to pick up either Donald Brown or Lamar Miller? Also, would you start either of them over CJ Spiller? Thanks.

    1. The Jackal-

Yes, we would- both Brown and Miller have longer-term value than Davis- unless you are a Charles owner. Yes- we would start Donald Brown over CJ Spiller. Good luck.

  23. I currently have a number of RBs: Lamar Miller, Donald Brown, Sproles, Fred Jackson, and Zac Stacy.

I am looking down the road and want to pick up another after this bye week. Rank the following guys available on my waiver wire (10 team, standard): Ingram, Moreno, Mathews, Tate, Hill, Crowell.

  24. Thanks for the advice, guys. I picked up Richardson – here’s hoping.

I was looking through your cheat sheet for a DEF, and about half of them are available in my league with some additions that have a higher %-owned. Where would you rank the Chiefs DEF in your waiver wire cheat sheet?

    1. They’re in the middle to the back of the pack this week. While we don’t love Brady right now, K.C.’s defense hasn’t shown that they can really stop anybody.

  25. 12tm PPR. Gio and Crowell on bye. Have R. Jennings tonight and slim pickings at RB2. S. Greene or Sankey? A. Blue available on the waiver wire if Foster doesn’t go. What do you think? I appreciate all the great advice!

  26. Ertz or Dwayne Allen?

    1. We have Ertz slightly ahead this week.

  27. I have both Fred Jackson and CJ Spiller on my roster. Spiller always seems to be ranked higher but Jackson seems to be getting more points every week. Continue to ride Spiller? Thanks.

Why did you guys list Malcolm Floyd as the #1 WR to get off waivers this week? Virtually every other fantasy website I follow did not even mention Malcolm Floyd as a potential Week 4 pickup, let alone the #1 WR to add.
