The Fantasy Fallout: Coming Into Week 14

Yesterday’s matchups decided many a fantasy season. If you’re fortunate enough to still be alive, which you should be if you’ve minded your RosterWatch, then this next section is for you. Here are a few thought’s on Sunday’s games:

Torrey Smith’s knee injury may be the only thing that saves Steve Smith Sr.’s fantasy post-season.

Keenan Allen has had a late-season resurgence that would make even Marques Colston proud. Don’t get too cocky though. He has NE, DEN, and SF to finish the fantasy season.

-I like Eddie Royal to finish the fantasy season hot. Teams won’t focus on him like they will Allen, and his sneaky, underneath routes make him harder to cover.

Johnny Manziel didn’t play error-free ball yesterday, but he did do what Brian Hoyer hadn’t done for over three quarters and that was move the ball. Moving forward, I think the fans in Cleveland would be more forgiving of a team taking a chance on the future than a team staying the course because it’s too scared to lose.

Terrance West’s fumble issues may have just given Isaiah Crowell the lead back job in Cleveland for good. Too bad Crowell has shown bad fumble issues this season, too.

Fred Jackson probably didn’t win anybody’s week for them, but he did come out of Sunday’s game with 21 carries and no setbacks. After DEN next week, he has a nice couple of matchups.

Robert Woods had his second-straight productive game this week. With teams angling to stifle Sammy Watkins, Kyle Orton is having no trouble going to other receivers, and Woods is his best option.

Nate Washington isn’t anybody’s idea of a fantasy savior, but he could do nicely in a pinch now that Justin Hunter is out. He’ll be an every-down receiver.

-Houston ends the year with JAX, IND, and BAL on their plate. Ryan Fitzpatrick, Deandre Hopkins, and Andre Johnson are strong plays.

DeAngelo Williams’ hand is broken, making Jonathan Stewart a more-than-decent flex to end the season as he has an easy schedule ahead.

-I’d like to think that Cam Newton will get better over the next few games as his opponents are less than imposing, but they’ve been that way for weeks. Newton’s been neutered by the coaching staff, and I don’t see that changing.

Teddy Bridgewater is a much better QB than fantasy gives him credit for being. He just doesn’t make a lot of mistakes, which is unusual for a rookie. He’ll be a much better play next season.

Cordarrelle Patterson is droppable in all leagues in which he can’t be kept for next season.

-Rumors of Mark Ingram’s demise have been greatly exaggerated. Keep starting him.

Kenny Stills is going to lead the Saints in receiving the rest of the way.

-The Saints can’t keep winning without Jimmy Graham. He’s still a must-start.

Martavis Bryant has faded, but he’s still a red-zone option, making him worth a flex. He was a drop away from paydirt this week on two occasions in separate drives.

-With the tough schedule the Raiders have going forward, don’t bother starting any of their backs that don’t have the last name Murray.

James Jones didn’t show up on the stat sheet, but he’s still picking up the most targets in Oakland.

-It’s long been said that Stedman Bailey has the best hands in St. Louis. It’s starting to show.

Jeremy Hill had the ball in his hands when it mattered yesterday. Gio Bernard is too talented to not flex though.

Doug Martin is back to being the best back in Tampa, whatever that means to you. Charles Sims doesn’t appear to be who we thought he was.

-Don’t be too scared for Mike Evans. CIN is top two in stopping WRs. It doesn’t help much that he’s up against DET next week though.

-Who would have thought that losing Carson Palmer would decimate the fantasy production of virtually every Cardinals skill player? The only sure bet to get consistent action in Andre Ellington, and he may not even play this coming week.

-If Roddy White sits again, don’t be the idiot who doesn’t start Harry Douglas in their flex.

-Bill Belichick hates fantasy. Why else would Brandon Bolden be in the game?

-I’ve been saying for weeks that Davante Adams needs to be owned. Do you need more proof?

-I really hate watching the Chiefs play football, almost as much as watching non-postseason baseball.

Alex Smith deserves to be paid top QB salary why? Travis Kelce would be an every week TE1 if he played for virtually any other team.

  1. If you had to pick one, Fitzpatrick or Sanchez?

    1. minionhunter-

Very close- we’d look at the matchups for this week. If you are looking rest of season we’d roll out Sanchez just because of the offense. Close call though, as Fitz is pretty high on our WK 14 Waiver Cheat Sheet- http://rosterwatch.com/rosterwatch-week-14-waiver-wire-cheat-sheet – Good luck.

    2. This week, Fitz. I dunno if Kelly’s magic will work against the Seahawks.

  2. Pick three… Josh grodon, alshon Jeffrey, antino brown, and aj green.

  3. Thank you guys!
I think you may be right about Torrey Smith being in trouble. Harbs said that he didn’t ‘think’ it was serious, that he didn’t know what to call the injury because the trainer didn’t tell him, and that he (John Harbaugh) would consider him day to day. The Ravens work the injury report like nobodies business. I hope I’m wrong but I have a sinking feeling about Torrey being ok.
