Three Fantasy Free Agents Who Should Be Owned

Ratty HeadshotThe 2015 NFL season is starting to hit its groove. Fantasy football players everywhere are starting to see just what to expect for the rest of the year. Around this time of the year, owners start noticing the trends of their teams. Now is the time for owners to put some early-week jitters away and gear up for a playoff run. Using free agency is a way to improve your team in fantasy leagues. That said, here are three fantasy players you should add to your roster if they are available.

Kamar Aiken, WR, Baltimore Ravens

It’s hard to have faith in Kamar Aiken, as he was a practice squad player for a portion of his career. However, with Steve Smith’s injury, it’s yet to be determined how long the veteran will be out for. And with rookie speedster Breshad Permian out indefinitely and Michael Campanaro on the injured reserve, the best receiver in Baltimore is Aiken. So if you’re in need a spot-starter at the receiver position for the next few weeks, Aiken is a guy that makes sense.

Ronnie Hillman, RB, Denver Broncos

He might not be snatched up in your league yet as he’s available in about 40% of public ones coming into the weekend. C.J. Anderson has been absolutely horrible in the 2015 season. After dropping Montee Ball before the season, the Broncos had two other backs on the roster in Ronnie Hillman and Juwan Thompson. While Hillman did only have 11 carries in Week 4, he put up 103 yards and a touchdown. Sure, a big portion of his total was because of his 72-yard touchdown run. But Hillman will be getting the starting (or at least 1a to Anderson’s 1b) workload in the Broncos’ offense moving forward per indications from Kubiak; and this alone makes Hillman becomes a priority pick-up.

Gary Barnidge, TE, Cleveland Browns

The tight end position has been a difficult one to project in the 2015 season. Besides Rob Gronkowski and Tyler Eifert, tight ends have been extremely inconsistent – and even Eifert has goose-egged owners once. In the past two weeks however, Gary Barnidge of the Cleveland Browns has put in two solid performances. With 16 targets over the past two games, Barnidge has caught 12 passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns. With his increased workload, Barnidge has emerged as one of Josh McCown’s favorite weapons. Barnidge faces the worst matchup on the entire RosterWatch Matchup Tool for tight ends in Week 5 against the Ravens, so he may not be the best play this week, but he makes for a great pick-up in season-long leagues should your TE position depth need bolstering.

  1. Need some trade help – I do not have a function RB corp

Trade away AJ Green, Doug Martin, Carlos Hyde for Marshawn Lynch and Emmanual Sanders

    Thoughts?

    1. no. why would you want to take on Lynch at this time? he doesn’t make anything more functional for the time being.

  2. In a 12-team standard dynasty league, and looking to pick up Hurns off waivers and a kicker. What two players would you drop from Stevie Johnson, Steve Smith Sr., Tavon Austin, Phillip Dorsett and Marvin Jones?

    1. probably Dorsett and either Tavon or Marvin Jones. Don’t wanna drop Stevie or the senior citizen just yet. Hate dropping any of them, really.

  3. with luck out tonight for TNF, i need 1 wr & 1 flex plz. (full ppr) (20yds rec-run/1 pt)

    1. hope you didn’t put in Moncrief! we’d lean hurns and bernard at this point but keep an eye on the final rankings as we work through them today.

  4. Great article Mr. Ratty. Im in a huge hole facing the owner of Deandre Hopkins this week so aiken might be the guy with the upside i need to equalize this situation!

  5. Standard league pick 2, Jeremy Hill, Dion Lewis, or Brandon Cooks. Thanks

  6. Hey Dorian, I Was listening to the segment today on Sirius XM and you guys were talking about the importance of owning Nelson Agholor. A guy in my league is willing to part with him for a RB. I have Forte, Ivory, Yeldon, D. Martin, Duke Johnson, and David Johnson. Out of Martin, or the Johnsons, which should I offer him? Thank you for your help!

    1. if he’ll take david, i’d offer that. Duke i would only offer if i was loaded at rb, which you kind of are, and i was weak at wr.
