Trashman’s Fantasy Fallout Going Into Week 14

trashman-editIt’s Week 1 of the playoffs for most, so when I refer to “playoffs” here I mean the fantasy playoffs. Now, let’s get things locked and loaded for our Championship run shall we?!

Chiefs vs Falcons

  • The Chiefs defense should win a collective MVP award. They keep bailing out an offense that hasn’t scored 30+ points this season outside of their first game of the year. Even an electric Tyreek Hill can’t be counted on in this offense. Going forward through the playoffs, you can’t count on any K.C. players who have routes deeper than 10 yards down the field. I don’t care that Maclin is coming back.
  • Coleman had 12 carries to Freeman’s 15. No goal line action though. That could be deadly throughout the playoffs.
  • Gabriel seems to have surpassed Sanu as the no.2 in Atlanta. He’s got enough playmaking ability for that to mean something.

Lions vs Saints

  • Zenner took over when Washington went down to an ankle injury on Sunday. If Washington can’t go this week, Zenner will get plenty of carries versus the run tough Bears.
  • Marvin should be back in week 14, but is he really someone you want to rely on in fantasy at this point?
  • Ingram missed a few series dealing with his toe injury. He’ll be a shaky play in week one of the playoffs.
  • Thomas is still the Saints best bet at fantasy gold on any given Sunday, despite this week’s numbers.

Rams vs Patriots

  • You know things are bad whenever Case Keenum is your best option at QB. Goff isn’t ready, and it’s negatively affecting the fantasy production of all the Rams. I don’t know if I want to live in a world where Gurley is an RB3 at best.
  • Britt got his TD in garbage time. I’m even wary of starting him with Goff under center.
  • Lewis and James are canceling each other out in fantasy.
  • Hogan got the TD, but Mitchell got double the targets(10). The talented rookie needs to be owned in all formats and started in most.

Broncos vs Jaguars

  • The Broncos got lucky they were playing the Jaguars. Lynch is playing better than Goff, but he’s still not going to get the job done.
  • Word is that Bibbs was going to overtake Booker before he exited for the year with an ankle injury. Newly acquired Forsett probably won’t take the starting job, but he may eat into carries right away. He’s got a long history with coach Kubiak.
  • Denard Robinson suffered a high ankle sprain on Sunday. If Ivory can’t return this week, it’s going to be the T.J. Yeldon show.
  • Neal Sterling filled in admirably for Julius Thomas at TE. He actually led all Jaguars in receiving.

Texans vs Packers

Deandre Hopkins 750

  • Miller’s rib injury didn’t keep him out of the game for long, but it rendered him ineffective, which may be worse. Now we can rely on him playing this week but have no idea how effective he will be. I’d rather know that I could just sit him and go with another option.
  • Congrats, Hopkins finally had a decent game against the worst secondary in the league. He might actually be worth using against Indy this week, especially if Miller is hobbled.
  • What a mess the the Packers backfield is. Michael did lead in touches, but Montgomery was by far the most productive back. He’s who I’d go with out of the lot of ‘em in week 14.
  • Adams fell off on Sunday, but he was still second in targets(7). He has another tough matchup against the Seahawks this week.

Eagles vs Bengals

  • I get it, Wentz isn’t getting any help, but nobody makes him throw the ball 60 times a game. He’s unusable in fantasy.
  • Ertz could be in for another big line this week if Matthews or DGB can’t go.
  • Boyd is arguably a better receiver, but Dalton likes LaFell in the red-zone.

Dolphins vs Ravens

  • Ajayi has officially cooled off, but it has a lot to do with a reduction in carries. He’s getting half the action he was a month ago.
  • The timeshare continues between Dixon and West. As long as they keep using him around the end-zone, West is, begrudgingly, the better play.
  • Can you trust Pitta after his big haul on Sunday? Well his 2 TDs were his first in 17 games, and the Ravens play the Patriots this week. I don’t love his chances.

49ers vs Bears

  • Kaepernick was abysmal against the Bears, but Gabbert is not an improvement. I’m not touching any 49ers this week that aren’t named Hyde.
  • Wilson missed the majority of the game with a groin injury. Those things usually take a minute to heal so Josh Bellamy could be in line for the start this week.
  • The Bears are going to lean on Howard as long as Barkley is under center. He’s going to win fantasy championships for people.

Bills vs Raiders

  • Gillislee has solid standalone value when he’s healthy.
  • Watkins led the team in targets(9), but couldn’t get anything going. He’ll have an easier go of it against the Steelers.
  • I hate to say it, but Crabtree is the Raiders de facto no.1 WR.
  • DeAndre Washington has been phased out of the offense in Oakland. Richard is the backup to Murray and got a respectable 9 carries on Sunday.

Giants vs Steelers

  • Perkins got one more carry than Jennings, but Jennings got all the targets. He’s still the guy there.
  • I knew Green was going to pay up big, but his 110 yards on 11 targets and 1 TD was absurd. He’s a TE1 must start for these playoffs. His emergence makes Rogers expendable in fantasy.

Redskins vs Cardinals

  • With Reed out, Garcon was Cousins’ go-to. He’ll be worth a start this week, should Reed sit again.
  • Expect Kelley to get more involved this week. The ‘Skins win more games when they run the ball more.
  • All the Cardinals got some against Washington, and I see a similar game script this week against the Dolphins, who just made Joe Flacco look like Joe Montana.

Buccaneers vs Chargers

Antonio Gates Camp 750

  • Rodgers took some prime carries from Martin, and although it was supposedly due to a mild back injury for Martin, the fact that Sims is returning soon only muddles the situation further.
  • Brate led the Bucs in targets(9) with Evans bottled up. He’ll be a strong play this week versus the Saints.
  • Freddie Martino could see some increased opportunities in this week’s cherry matchup too with Humphries and Shorts both injured.
  • Gates has not been producing as of late, but he’s still playing ahead of Henry.

Panthers vs Seahawks

  • I wouldn’t say Ginn has overtaken Benjamin in the Panthers pecking order, his targets don’t justify it, but he has been the more productive player as of late. He’s TD dependent, but I like his matchup with the Chargers this week.
  • Troymaine Pope saw 9 carries against Carolina, but this was with the game well in hand. It’s Rawls all day for Seattle going into the playoffs.
  • Lockett was still the 4th option in Seattle, but his ability to break play open gave him a decent line for once. He’ll be a nice upside play against the Packers this week.
  • Kearse had his best game of the year with 68 yards on 9 targets. I don’t trust it, but if you’re looking for miracle this week he is going up against Green Bay…

Colts vs Steelers

  • Allen and Doyle got the same number of targets(4) on Monday, but 3 of Allen’s were TDs, go figure. I wouldn’t normally chase that, but with the Texans up next – who cover WRs better than most, I could see him staying busy.
  • Bryce Petty is going to finish the season out for the Jets, and the second team doctrine mandates that Robby Anderson is going to get hella targets here on out. This is only useful because the Jets face the 49ers this week.

  1. in regards to Bryce Petty—do I sit B Marshall in the first round of the playoffs??? i have been playing 3 RBS (Ware-Gurley-FatRob) and 2 WR/TEs out of these options —- BMarshall – MTHomas – TEiifert – JReed – TBoyd -RashMatthews<<>>thoughts??? PPR plus .3pts per rushing attempt we play 2 RBs,2Wr/Tes and one FLEX??????

    1. yeah, i sit marshall here.

  2. So if “Boyd is arguably a better receiver, but Dalton likes LaFell in the red-zone”, is it worth dropping Boyd for LaFell (or Marqise Lee)?

Drop Smallwood for Gillislee? I’ll need to play one of them this week do to u fortunate RB injuries.

    1. *unfortunate RB injuries

    2. yes to LaFell, not Lee against the Vikings. Smallwood has a good matchup against the skins and should be the primary ball carrier, and you’re depending on a TD from Gill.

  3. I need trashy help with setting my WR line for week one of play offs in a 0.5 PPR league. I have Cooper, K. Benjamin, Wallace, J. Matthews, Boyd, Ty Hill and Britt. I can go after Mitchell and Lafell as well. Which 3 would you start?

    1. cooper, matthews, and mitchell

  4. Also, do you think Kelce is good enough for the play offs or should i go after green?

    1. he should be fine. i’d add green if you can start 2 tes.

  5. I see CJ is still 3rd on your WW cheat sheet but he hasn’t produced on my standard league team. Is it time to drop him for L. Green or D. Allen?

  6. Big Ben or Carr for this week.? Ben seems to struggle on the road but Carr has a short week.

  7. With Jeremy Maclin back at full practice where does this leave Tyreek? Would you still start him over D Inman or R Matthews? Thanks

  8. Need 3 of these 4 – PPR league. Moncrief, Landry, Hill and Crowder?

Can we expect Greg Olsen to get back to this pre-bye work?? He’s been a struggle to watch since their bye week. Would you ever consider starting L. Green over Olsen?

Buffalo has been exposed defensively, is there a hope Big Ben reverses his road spells vs. them with Green now in the mix? (Dalton, would be higher ranked but would need to drop Ben).

Rest of team does include Demarco, Zeke and OBJ an anchors. Prater and Cincy D this week.

  9. Yes we would “consider” that move- wait for our TE rankings. Olsen almost certain to be ranked higher. Have to like a Cam rebound at home. But, we see where your head is at.

Crowder + Moncrief – wait for rankings on the other

  10. Need two in a ppr underdog match

    watkins
    lafell
    ryan mathews
    vernon davis
    B. Powell
    Tevin Coleman
    Rishard Mathews

    1. Coleman – then between Watkins and Rishard. Wait for the matchup tool

      1. matchup tool says ryan mathews is the play… all signs say hes playing? do you trust him or should i still go with watkins and coleman?

  11. Flex (ppr)-
    Mitchell vs Bal
    Marshall @SF
    Crowell vs Cin
    Snead @TB

    Thx

    1. Mitchell, and this is not close for me. I love him this week at home vs BAL.

      1. Awesome. Thanks!

  12. 12t .5ppr drop Cobb my WR5 for DWill (cuff Bell), Derick Henry or Gillislee?

Also, I’m in the finals in one league and want to crush my opponent. Starting Bell, D Johnson, Antonio Brown. I need 1 WR and 1 flex from RKelley, Golden Tate, Marshall, T Coleman, Lewis, Crowder. nonppr

    1. i don’t know that i’d drop cobb unless you don’t see yourself starting him. in that case it’d be for dwill. tate and kelley

  13. I have both Eifert and Kelce — which one should I go with. Less than 24 hours to decide.

    1. kelce has gone 100+ yds in his last 3 games. it’s hard to bet against him.

  14. It’s trashy, but is it crazy to consider starting Robby Anderson over B. Marsh?

With Petty, seems like Robby is his first and only read and should get plenty of targets. They got a lot of reps together in preseason.

Fantasy playoffs here. Don’t want to get cute but Marshall’s done nothing basically all year.

    1. not crazy, but you don’t have better options otherwise?

      1. This is for my flex. Not a ton of other options, unfortunately. 14-team league.

With AJ Green out, Michael Thomas (knee, hopefully he plays, or I’m in big trouble) and Tyrell are my starting WRs.

Who would you flex out of these:

        Brandon / Robby, Ginn, Inman

I could probably double up with Tyrell and Inman but that feels somewhat upside-limiting even if it’s the least ugly choice?

        Thanks TM.

        1. i like Ginn of that group, though a sd stack isn’t a bad idea to be honest.

  15. Week 14 streaming DST:
    SD (@Car)
    Det (vs Chi)
    Ten (@ Den)
    Atl (@ LAR)

  16. Hey, I am back for more advice for my super flex league! QBs get 1 pt per 33 yds, 4 pts per td and -2 per turnover. This is also a 0.5 ppr league. Who should I start in my super flex spot from Brady, Rawls and Ajayi? Thanks so much guys!!!
