Trashman’s Garbage Grab: Week 4

It’s the beginning of bye weeks in the NFL, and holes need filling. Consider these trashy treasures in deep leagues and daily contests.

Brandon LaFell WR, Patriots: I guess Belichick was listening when LaFell argued about his usage to the tune of 43 snaps and 8 targets last week. He only managed a bit over forty yards, but Aaron Dobson was absent and healthy last in that game so I guess LaFell is going to get his shot now. The Chiefs are no longer the dominating defense we’ve seen in the recent past, so I like his chances.

Andrew Quarless TE, Packers: Quarless provided the lone Packers TD in the snoozer versus the Lions last Sunday, and though he’s no athletic specimen, he does have decent hands, and Aaron Rodgers needs all the help he can get right now. With no true end-zone threat since James Jones left, Quarless could assume the role for the time being.

Eddie Royal WR, Chargers: When Royal gets hot he smolders, and when he gets cold he’s sub-zero. I think he’s on a hot streak right now, and though I love Malcolm Floyd I think Royal is going to get filthy against the woeful Jags this week.

Allen Robinson WR, Jaguars: Robinson has been Mr. Dependable since coming on in week 2 of this season, and with Marqise Lee hobbled for the time being, he’ll continue to play the majority of snaps in Jacksonville. He’s only owned in just over 23% of leagues, and I think he’s going to offer consistent production against a San Diego team the Jags should have to throw a bunch on and into the future.

Ryan Fitzpatrick QB, Texans: As much as I have loathed Fitzpatrick throughout his NFL career, he’s getting work done for the Texans and he’s producing as a high end QB2. In the first week of NFL byes, he’s tops on my list of spot start QBs.

Eric Ebron TE, Lions: No Joe Fauria and an iffy Calvin Johnson create a perfect storm for Ebron, who coaches have already said will be a big part of the Lions offense going forward. He’s definitely someone to roster if not start this week in most leagues.

James Starks RB, Packers: Starks outgained Eddie Lacy last week on fewer carries, and while I don’t this indicates what Lacy will do this week, I think that Starks will get 10+ carries against a Bears defense that is weak against the run.

Branden Oliver RB, Chargers: I’d never even heard of Oliver before last week, but opportunity can create fantasy gold and Oliver is going to get plenty of opportunities as the number 2 behind Donald Brown. His usefulness probably won’t last, but Oliver can be used in deeper leagues for the time being.

  1. 10 Team PPR

Do you consider Montee Ball a Buy-Low candidate going forward? I am heavy at WR with D. Thomas, Alshon, Benjamin, and Patterson. My RB’s are Ellington, Gerhart, Bradshaw, and Terrance West.

Would you suggest offering Benjamin for Ball? If not what would be your suggestion. Thanks

    1. Do that trade in a heartbeat. Benjamin has a TD in each of his games and Ball owners are panicking right now.

  2. I honestly don’t see him as much of a buy low. I don’t think he has a favorable schedule. I’d aim for someone like joique bell who has a cupcake schedule and a lower price tag.

  3. HELP! I must have terrible QB mojo. I began with RG III, but then picked up Cousins. Had McCown, then picked up R Fitzpatrick. I’ve followed your rankings in terms of who to pick up, etc, which has at least provided me with a direction… but this has been a crazy season so far! Would like thoughts on whether or not to pick up McGlennon off waiver wire.

  4. I would aim for someone like Flacco or Palmer if he’s back before I tried Glennon. If they’re not available, Glennon is a decent choice.

  5. Well shoot. Neither of those are available. The league I’m in began drafting QB’s in first round so the pickings are pretty slim. Thanks!
