Seattle Seahawks: Potential Cuts and Free Agents
Byron Lambert, Rosterwatch.com
Yes, we cover the 2014 NFL Draft. Yes, we cover 2014 NFL Free Agency.
At heart, this is a fantasy site. After analyzing the team-by-team salary cap data at Spotrac.com– these are the FANTASY RELEVANT players from the Seattle Seahawks who are either free agents, or likely candidates to be cut from the roster. The Seahawks enter free agency with around $2.1M in cap room, and have made clear that the organization’s No. 1 priority through the offseason and free agency is locking up S Earl Thomas for the long haul, a move which will put an extra $8-10M annually on the books.
Seattle Seahawks
Free Agents
Golden Tate (WR) – UFA – Reportedly willing to take the old “hometown discount” to stay in the Pacific Northwest with Russell Wilson.
Kellen Davis (TE) – UFA
Anthony McCoy (TE) – UFA
Doug Baldwin (WR) – RFA
Candidates to be Cut
Sidney Rice (WR)– Projected $7.3M savings against the cap. Has a horrifying 9.7M cap figure for 2014. He’s out- or taking a MASSIVE pay-cut.
Zach Miller (TE)– Projected $5M savings against the cap. His $7M 2014 cap figure is unconscionable. Tight End is an extremely deep position in the 2014 draft. There are guys projected to be drafted on Day 3 that we like more than Miller, plus Luke Willson seemed like the more involved TE with the Seattle offense down the stretch anyway.
** Other candidates (not fantasy related) likely to be cut, restructured, or leave via free agency include- DE Chris Clemons, DL Red Bryant, CB Brandon Browner, and CB Walter Thurmond, RT Breno Giacomini.
