Scouting Notes:
One of the more NFL-ready receivers in the draft, Olave does all the little things well. He’s a complete route runner who runs a comprehensive tree, implementing deceptive footwork at the root and using lateral movement to create separation at the line. From there he can change tempos to get his defender out of whack before he turns on the jets and leaves him in the dust. That’s where you notice his speed. Olave is adept at changing tempos through his routes, so it’s often not until he’s blowing by the corner upfield that he really turns on the nitros. For this reason, Olave is often wide open on his tape. He either catches the ball in space over the middle or by the sideline, way downfield. His excellent field awareness and body control gives him the uncanny knack of finding the sideline with his feet amidst circus-like catches. Olave isn’t just a tidy route runner though. He is a QB’s best friend in the sense that he is willing to break his route and improvise to get open when the play breaks down. He can also play inside, outside and from the backfield, so he’s a versatile complement to the offense. Olave’s one setback is his size. He’s over 6 foot, but he’s slight in build. His efforts to block often fall flat, if he’s even called to black at all. And though he can catch the ball in traffic with ease, he’s not going to win the contested catch if he has to fight for it in most instances. All in all though, Olave would be a welcome addition to any roster with his well-rounded game. He has the skill set to immediately step into an NFL offense and be a featured WR.

Fantasy Outlook:
Olave doesn’t have a ton of experience against the press, but he was able to often get open off the line through his lateral movement and footwork, and he can play out of the slot so it shouldn’t prove to be a major concern. Arguably a top-5 WR in the draft, Olave should see the field right away and makes for a high dynasty pick due to his NFL readiness and the presumption that he’ll come into the league with a good bit of draft capital. A deep threat who can also move the chains, Olave has a good chance of being a fantasy contributor from day one if he lands on a team that is in need of a do-it-all receiver with impressive speed, which could be just about any team. Also, because of his readiness, we should be able to gauge if he’s going to be productive or a bust sooner than we would with a lot of other receivers, so that’s a plus for better or worse. I’m betting on him finding fantasy footing early and often, though. He’ll likely end up as an option for dynasty league rookie drafters at the 1-2 turn, with room for movement upward or downward based on combine testing.
