Allen Robinson, WR Penn State
Height: 6’3″
Weight: 209 pounds
40 yard dash: 4.54 (projected)
NFL Comparison: Anquan Boldin
Scouting Notes:
The Big 10 receiver of the year in 2012 and 2013, Robinson is the only player since 1985 to lead the Big 10 in receptions and receiving yardage in consecutive seasons. He accomplished this feat not by being the fastest or the strongest guy on the field, but through his precise route-running and aggressive play at the point of contact, off the line of scrimmage and through traffic. Robinson uses his intimidating size and impressive burst to turn what would be short gains into considerable ones. His strong and physical demeanor on the field garners comparison to Anquan Boldin, though Robinson could gain another ten pounds of muscle to be more effective.
Fantasy Outlook:
Robinson isn’t a big play guy. He’s a possession receiver who excels at underneath routes, and that means he will have to make his hay in quantity. What we’ve seen out of possession guys like Boldin, Brian Hartline, and Julian Edelman is that with enough targets, they can have very respectable fantasy seasons. Robinson has the potential to be bigger than all of these guys, physically speaking, so his ceiling may actually be a bit higher – More of the new “super possession”-type athlete like Michael Crabtree. If he keeps up the work ethic that he’s held throughout college, Robinson will turn into a productive, and even more importantly, consistent fantasy receiver in the right situation.
