Dynasty Spotlight: Mike Davis, RB South Carolina – 2015 NFL Draft
Height: 5’9″
Weight: 223
40 yard dash: 4.54 (projected)
NFL Comparison: A bulkier Darren Sproles
Scouting Notes:
Davis is the human equivalent of a snowball rolling down a hill. He starts his runs delicately, finding his feet and his holes before barreling his way down field, often taking his would-be tacklers along for the ride. Davis doesn’t possess breakaway speed, so he relies on the element of surprise – a lot of defenders are surprised he can move as quickly as he does. He has great vision too, so Davis is adept at making ankle-breaking cuts that allow him to gain even more yardage. It doesn’t stop there, though. Davis might have the best hands of any back in the draft, posting up to 10 receptions in some games. Davis’ biggest weakness is himself it would seem. He has a history of momentum-slowing injuries, and that could stymie him on the next level.
Fantasy Outlook:
Davis won’t get drafted as early as he might in less-RB-deep years. I’m speculating the late third or early fourth round. That’s good news for a team looking for a potential three-down back, which Davis very well could be. He’s like Darren Sproles, but bigger. Capable of producing in every facet of the game, Davis could be a fantasy beast should he land in the right situation and stay healthy. Don’t sleep on him in dynasty drafts, as there are few complete packages like Davis available in the 2015 crop. He should be a round one pick in early, pre-NFL draft rookie dynasty drafts. If he falls to the right system, he’ll likely be taken at the top of round one.
