Scouting Notes:

Only three WR prospects at this year’s Combine notched 23 reps in the bench press, and Davis was one of them. The other two were Kevin White and Sammie Coates, so he’s in good company. The rest of his showing was average outside of the 3-cone drill, which some considered flawless in its execution. Davis didn’t run the 40, he wants to tackle that at a later date, but no one expects him to put up a great time as speed is not something he’s known for. What’s a little disconcerting for me from tape is not so much the lack of speed but Davis’ slow and often ungainly feet. He almost reminds me of a tight end at times, which could be an actual position change he makes in the pros. What Davis excels at is attacking the ball in the air with his hands in heavy traffic, and this was something RW noticed at the NFL combine during on-field drills. He’s not afraid to sacrifice himself for the play, as some finesse WRs are. Davis possesses a wide catch radius as well, which helps to mitigate his inability to create separation at times.

Fantasy Outlook:

Davis projects to be a late-round draft pick, but his strength may bump him up a bit. He fits best as a possession-type receiver in the pros, with his excellent hands but limited escapability and quickness – similar to a younger Jerricho Cotchery. His size and ball-hawking prowess could make Davis of considerable use in the end zone – remember Cotchery in 2013? So, he’s worth a pickup in dynasty should he land on one of the less-WR-talent-rich teams without a true red-zone threat. For now, though, he isn’t worth anything more than a fourth-rounder in traditional rookie draft formats.
