Dream Bowl Interview and Scouting Report – Shaq Lewis, FS Louisiana College
Shaq Lewis, Free Safety/Defensive Back, Louisiana College
Height: 6’1″
Weight: 197 lbs.
There’s no other way to put it. Shaq Lewis looks like an NFL player. He fits the mold of a safety at the next level. He walks with the confidence you would expect of a professional. His athleticism stands out in his measurables and on tape. Lewis, raised by his aunt and uncle, was a highly touted prospect coming out of Convent, Louisiana. There were concerns about his attitude that resulted in a verbal offer from the University of Louisiana – Monroe being withdrawn. Shaq has since completely changed his attitude and his mindset. CFL scouts are definitely interested in Lewis. If he gets an invite to an NFL training camp, he could really surprise some people.
Positives:
– He looks smooth in coverage. Really like his back pedal
– Has good height and length
– Nice play recognition skills
– Breaks on the ball well – Good closing speed
– Special teams contributor
– Great ball skills (6 interceptions in 2014)
– Great vertical ability (can high-point the ball)
Negatives:
– Needs to bring his feet more when tackling
– Level of competition
– Needs to wrap up the ball carrier better at times instead of trying to get the big hit
– It’d be nice if he was just a little bit thicker
