Shane Vereen Plays with the First Team

Take this with a grain of salt, but second year running back Shane Vereen is taking first team snaps at Patriots OTA’s. My immediate thought is that this is a sort of smoke screen designed to take teams off the real scent, and Stevan Ridley is the real number one. In all seriousness, though, this could be the jump-start that Vereen needs to take the lead in the the New England backfield race. It’s doubtful that there will be a workhorse back on the team, but this early (and it is still very early) indicator shows us that Vereen could be the closest thing to one. Ridley and Woodhead can’t be discounted, as we’ve seen in the past, but Vereen looks to be the first draftable Patriot running-back in fantasy leagues.
