A Lynch Suspension, A Turbin Ascension

Seattle’s Magic Turbin

Marshawn Lynch is in a pickle. His recent drunk driving excursion in his hometown of Oakland, ending in a DUI arrest, endangered the lives of others and could ultimately affect his own livelihood. Now Lynch faces suspension by the league, and a suspension for detrimental conduct or substance abuse defaults Lynch’s four-year, $31 million contract and voids any guaranteed money. This is Lynch’s third run-in with the law during his NFL career, and the second that has endangered human life. In 2008, he hit a pedestrian while driving in Buffalo in a hit and run. He also has a weapons charge in his ever-thickening legal file.

The contractual issues are a buzz-kill for Seattle’s rejuvenated lead runner, but it’s the looming suspension that has us fantasy fanatics pacing the room. Enter 5’10”, 220 lb rookie RB Robert Turbin, who some have compared to Marion Barber. WAC’s 2011 player of the year, and the proud owner of a 4.48 40 time at the combine, Turbin is poised to be the Seattle’s #2 RB  out of the gate. The sure-handed back, who caught 67 passes in college, is already in contention to be the third down back regardless of Lynch’s status.

The looming suspension for Marshawn could catapult Turbin to lead back status overnight, at least for a few games. A few games can mean a whole lot in fantasy football, as do fast starts. Scooping up Turbin could change the course of your season. Let’s wait and see how Lynch fares before we get too bullish on him in redrafts, but he’s already worth at least a second round pick in dynasty rookie drafts.
