Giants tight end Martellus Bennett drew reason for concern from his position coach, Mike Pope, when he came in to OTAs almost thrity pounds heavier than the 265 pounds he weighed last season. In a conversation with reporters today, Bennett stood shirtless as he explained that the weight gain was due to him “rocking out” in the weight room this offseason. This very well may be the case, we don’t have pictures to confirm the beastliness, but I don’t know many teams that would covet a tight-end that big, regardless of whether he was fat or chiseled. That’s a lot of weight to carry around, and unless he plans to spend most of his time bench pressing defensive ends, there isn’t much use for it. He needs to worry more about holding on to passes.
