Best Bye Buys
Dorian “The Trashman” Colbert, RosterWatch.com
Wow, the NFL season is already a quarter of the way through, and the first bye week is coming up quickly. This is when things start to get tough. No longer can you coast off of your stellar drafts. They were stellar, right? This also happens to be my favorite part of the season, as this is when team management really comes into play. Bye week maneuvering is what, IMHO, separates the men from the boys. Players from the Browns, Cowboys, Dolphins, Ravens, Rams, and Redskins are all off limits this week, so no Hillis, Bryant, Marshall, Romo, Jackson, Ravens DEF, etc. Let’s take a look at some options to get you through the week. These are players who are available in at least half of leagues.
RB
Tier1: Isaac Redman-Steelers,Kendall Hunter-49ers, Thomas Jones-Chiefs, Stevan Ridley-Patriots; Redman and Ridley should be on your teams regardless of whether you have byes this week or not.
Tier 2: James Casey-Texans, Marion Barber-Bears, Earnest Graham-Buccaneers; Graham is a check down machine, and Barber is a good bet to get a touchdown but not much else
WR
Tier 1: Jacoby Jones, Victor Cruz, Jacoby Ford, Antonio Brown; Every one of these guys is worth a start this week and maybe into the future.
Tier 2: Steve Breaston, Pierre Garcon, Michael Crabtree; Decent week 4’s all around. They might turn back into pumpkins this week though.
TE
Tier 1: Jermaine Gresham, Jared Cook; The talent is finally showing in these two. Worth rostering this week and beyond
Tier 2: James Casey, Heath Miller, Jake Ballard, Kevin Boss; Coin flips for a ten point showing or 2 point flop.
QB
Tier 1: Matt Hasselbeck; Why he’s not rostered, and started, in over half of leagues is beyond me. Wake up people!
Tier 2: Matt Cassel, Jason Campbell, Curtis Painter: They all have talent to work with. What they do with it? That’s up to them. They’re useful for a spot start.
DEF
Houston, Tennessee, Cincinnati; These defenses are seldom owned but near the top of the league in limiting opposition scoring. Fantasy numbers will soon begin to match their performances.
