Blount Force Drama?
Tampa Bay’s Bruiser Fights for his Job
Dorian “The Trashman” Colbert, RosterWatch.com
LaGarrette Blount is still the man in Tampa Bay, at least according to OTAs thus far. The third year back has been taking first team snaps up into Tampa’s most recent mini-camp, and has no plans on relinquishing his position. Blount has even claimed that he’s lost 5 to 10 lbs in an attempt to become an every down back, though his ability to pass protect may be the biggest indicator of whether that becomes a reality. Apparently the first round selection of RB Doug Martin has been just what Blount needs to motivate himself to doing what it takes to maintain a starting job. Unfortunately, it may not me enough. Martin is a versatile back with better hands, and the Buc’s didn’t draft him to warm the bench. It will be interesting to see how this situation unfolds as Mossis Madu and fellow rookie Michael Smith are also in the mix to get carries.
