Chiefs Backfield: Charcandrick West Versus Knile Davis in Week 6 for Fantasy Football

Ratty HeadshotOne of the most consistent fantasy performers throughout the past few years tore his ACL in Week 5. With Jamaal Charles going down, fantasy owners worldwide scrambled to pick up his backup. Andy Reid says there is no definite starter and fantasy owners, knowing Knile Davis for his traditional handcuff ability, many forget to pick up the running back who will likely get the most touches on Sunday in Charcandrick West.

In Week 6, the Kansas City Chiefs will go on the road to play the Minnesota Vikings.

Off their bye week, the Vikings obviously had a lot of time to figure out what they would do to stop Charles, but with the injury, the focus must change to shutting down Alex Smith and the passing game, and making the Chiefs beat them with the combination of West and Davis.

An Abilene Christian product, West figures to be the guy getting the bulk of the carries, while Davis will get work in specific sub-packages qnd situationally, especially ones near the end zone where the team has indicated Davis shines over West. West isn’t the biggest runner by any means. At 5-foot-10, 200 pounds, West doesn’t run with the power or have the size Davis has, but he excels at finding the hole and bursting through it.

In Andy Reid’s West Coast offense, we’re going to see a lot of spread like we saw in the past with Charles. But because of his speed and his burst being closer to that of Charles, West will be on the field more than Davis. However, if you’re sold on playing “Rick,” you could into some problems with Davis – as he will likely be the one to vulture some touchdowns when the Chiefs are near the goal-line.

There’s a ton to like out of West. However, in Week 6, he may not perform as well as some people are thinking. I could see West getting around 16 carries and reeling off a few pass-completions compared to Davis who should get around 9 carries. Against a young and improving Minnesota defense, one that’s coming off the bye, this isn’t a great matchup for the Chiefs backfield.

Fantasy projection for West: 16 carries for 67 yards with a few catches for a boost in PPR.

Fantasy projection for Davis: 9 carries for 24 yards and a touchdown.

  1. Missed out on West in FAAB bidding (dude paid 52$!!)… S0, How much FAAB should be committed to C Michael flyer (overlook the crazy 52$ bid, thats not usual)? do need RB help… rolling out lynch, gurley, J stew, rawls, Karlos williams, david johnson, tevin coleman and Theo Riddick…. and who should be dropped? should any of them be dropped for a DIGGS flyer? rolling out hopkins, julio, marshall, and cooks (all 4 start)…? THANKS

    1. Please see this week’s waiver wire cheat sheet for CMike bid recommendation

Your RBs are pretty solid- could drop Coleman since you don’t own Freeman-but you should try to trade him to Freeman owner first. Riddick would be the first guy we would drop

  2. If forsett sits, do I play west or buck Allen in a ppr?

    1. Tough call- we know the most about Allen- and love him if Forsett is out

  3. Would u trade Jeremy hill for cj Anderson? Ppr

    1. NO!

      -Byron

  4. @ icepick16 – buck
    @ rw-LN2RRfv3c – NO!

  5. I have Randle and handcuffed him with DMC . I dropped agholor to get buck Allen . Would you drop DMC to pick up agholor again? Or would you drop Diggs?

    1. For us, DMC is always drop-able. We’d hold Diggs for a few weeks if possible. We’d also drop DMC for Christine Michael if somehow still on your wire

  6. LeSean McCoy didn’t make you rankings. Would you play McCoy or Woodhead as a flex in a PPR league?

    Thanks in advance!

    1. McCoy

  7. Standard league, would you start Erik Decker over Ty Hilton this week?

    1. Not if Luck starts

  8. 12 Team Standard (Record: 2-3)

    [1] QB: Tyrod Taylor
[2] WR: A. Brown, Hopkins (Watkins, Hurns)
[2] RB: Forte, Gore (D. Martin, K. Williams, Abdullah)
    [1] TE: Barnidge
    [1] FLEX: Duke Johnson
    Bench total : (5)

Thanks for all the help in my other leagues this week but now I need the most help here in my 12 man league where I’m trying to get back to .500!

    1. What do I do about this Tyrod Taylor situation? Should I be dropping him or someone else for the likes of: Mariota, Bortles, Cutler, P. Manning, Hoyer, Stafford or Bridgewater?

    2. Should I make any other add/drops with who is available: A. Morris, Ryan Matthews, David Johnson, Rawls, Diggs, T. Austin, M. Wallace, J. Brown, Kearse, M. Wilson

    1. You have a deep waiver wire at QB- you could drop Tyrod if necessary. Since you don’t own LeSean- we might try dropping Karlos- picking up a QB for this wk and keeping Taylor. Then drop the QB you pick up next week to try and scoop Karlos back up- of course he could get sniped by LeSean owner.

If that’s John Brown- he should be owned- and probably played this week

Diggs and Johnson the other two guys worth owning

      1. Yeah I’m leaning towards to dropping Taylor considering I’ll get last dibs to claim whoever I drop and I think Karlos is more valuable than the RBs in FA. Which QB do I roll with though?

Also, are you suggesting picking up John Brown and starting him over Duke Johnson in my FLEX this week? Because I know I wouldn’t start him over Brown or Hopkins… or even Hurns? I’m also hoping Watkins breaks out soon!

  9. Ppr I Need 1rb and 1 flex out of forsett, Lamar Miller, Chris Johnson, Alshon Jeffery and Allen Robinson. Not sure on statis of forsett and Jeffery. Thanks.

  10. Best recommendation here is to check our final positional rankings on Sun AM and also peruse the Trashman’s flex rankings that come out on Sat.

For now- Forsett (if he’s a go and doesn’t sound limited- you’ll need to monitor this closely) + Alshon (w/ same disclaimer) – next up would be Robinson and Johnson

Miller we just have to wait and see before playing him

  11. Do u think its a good call to drop davante Adams for Christine michael? I definitely could use a little rb insurance, but we have yet to see if Michael can produce. It’s a ppr league. And I am stacked at receiver. I just feel like I have held onto Adams this long, the second I drop him….after the bye he’ll go off….

    1. Michaels is worth the gamble if you need help at rb.
