Javorius Allen, better known by some as “Buck”, is a pleasure to scout on tape due to his effectiveness.
(Nothing spectacular, but an example of a run that NFL coaches will love)
He may not be the transcendent talent that general managers dream about, but he certainly reminds us of the effective three-down back that keeps an offense on schedule who head coaches and offensive coordinators constantly conjure up in their minds. As a matter of fact, the word “effective” comes up time and time again in our notes on Allen.
(Such an effective run, picks his way through traffic and breaks arm tackles)
Buck Allen is a back who runs with great pad-level who almost always leans or falls forward. He gets downhill for positive yardage, but has vision to make the necessary cuts. He’s effective picking his way through traffic in gap and zone schemes.
(Effectively executes behind ZBS and Gap schemes in back-to-back plays for big gains)
He’s got good feet, and loves to get North/South as soon as possible. With his monster mitts, he’s also very effective in the passing game out of the backfield.
(Swing pass, hands catch)
Allen demonstrates that ability time and time again with screen passes, swing passes, and even wheel routes. Admittedly, for his size he’s not overly powerful, but we believe he is a finisher. He does lack some physicality in pass protection, however he is a willing blocker.
(Screen pass)
Look at just how sneaky effective he is:
(Effective in outside-zone/pin-and-pull at goal line)
(Draw play)
(Back-to-back plays, good feet and stop start ability to find positive yardage)
Fantasy Outlook:
The theme of this scouting report is “effective”. That’s exactly how Allen’s fantasy fortunes should shake out at the next level. He will be an effective fantasy option, once the opportunities present themselves. If he’s slated to get a lot of touches as a rookie, he’ll be a must-own. If he’s a handcuff option, he’ll be a must-own for owners of the starting runner to whom Allen will serve as the handcuff. Allen will represent tremendous value in dynasty rookie drafts, and will also be on the re-draft radar if drafted into either of the aforementioned situations.
