Scouting Notes:

If there’s any receiver that has vaulted up pre-draft charts nearly as much as Odell Beckham, it’s Cody Latimer of Indiana. How Latimer has evaded our watchful eyes to this point is irrelevant. What we now know is that teams are champing at the bit to get a glimpse of what this kid can do. Latimer is deceptively powerful. He led all receivers in the combine in the bench press(23) and his vertical of 39″ was among the top performers as well. He’s fast too, even nursing a toe injury, he managed a 4.39 40 at Indiana’s Pro Day last month. He’s a freak, and he’s only played five seasons of football in his life, so he’s got a lot of room to improve. The raw player that he is, Latimer still has big soft hands, and snatches the ball out of the air with ease. He has to sharpen his route running, and he lacks a second gear in the open field, but Latimer has all the skills to be a moderate to major success in the NFL.

Fantasy Outlook:

Latimer has the makings of a top-tier possession receiver who has the speed to break off big plays on occasion. His brute strength makes him a boon in the blocking game and in getting separation in tight spaces. His leaping prowess provides a boost in the red zone as well. I like Latimer to become a productive fantasy player, but it won’t be immediate. He’s a little too rough around the edges right now. Draft him now in dynasty leagues, but give him at least a year to come into his own.
