T.J. Jones, WR Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Height: 6’0″
Weight: 188 pounds
40 yard dash: 4.48
NFL Comparison: Lance Moore

Scouting Notes:

T.J. Jones isn’t among the most physically gifted of this year’s draft class, and that may be his greatest advantage. Jones is a pinpoint route runner, something he’s worked on a lot due to his lack of breakneck speed or imposing strength. He creates space quickly, which puts him on a level playing field with faster corners. Jones also has reliable hands that snatch the ball out of the air, and he can change direction in an instant, dodging defenders with ease. He was a team captain at Notre Dame too, which lends to his potential as a leader on and off the field. NFL teams tend to value depth of character in receivers who can be divas.

Fantasy Outlook:

Jones’ size will probably put him in the slot when he gets to the NFL. Fortunately, the slot is the new hotness in the league, and there’s plenty of work available therein. I love watching Jones move on the field, and I think whoever ends up drafting him will share that sentiment, using him in various ways. I don’t think Jones will make an immediate impact in the NFL, so I don’t know if drafting him prematurely is a great idea. I do think his work ethic and leadership skills will secure him a long NFL career though, throughout which he’ll make a better real life player than fantasy player.
