Xavier Grimble

Xavier Grimble, TE USC
Height: 6’5″
Weight: 255 pounds
40 yard dash: 4.65 (projected)
NFL Comparison: Jermaine Gresham

Scouting Notes:

A giant of a man, Grimble  was vastly underutilized during his three years at USC where he amassed 831 yards and 11 TDs.  He has extremely soft hands for his size and thick thighs that should give even the stoutest of NFL linebackers and nickel package personnel a tough task in not allowing a two-way go. Even with all that mass, Grimble is quick and athletic, but he’s not especially fast. Grimble’s main deficit is his consistency in the blocking game, which should improve in due time.

Fantasy Outlook:

It comes a surprise to many that Grimble is entering the draft this year, as he has much learning to do in the way of becoming an all around tight end. He was also hampered by injury throughout his last season, which may dim his prospects. Grimble’s lackluster stats might also generate pause in some teams, but his imposing size and overall high upside should make him a made man selected by no later than the second to third round of the 2014 NFL draft. It will take some polishing, but Grimble will contribute sooner than later. Unfortunately, he will probably start out in a blocking role, leaving him out of serious fantasy contention until at least his second year in the league.
