Baker Mayfield, Panthers
Age: 27
Movement: Rising
Previous Rank QB48
Updated Rank QB25
The most obvious move of the week, Mayfield gets a big boost, as he shifted from being dead weight at loggerheads with his organization in Cleveland to being the frontrunner to start the season under center in Carolina. The Panthers will tell you that it’s an open competition for the starting job, but they wouldn’t have traded for Mayfield if they were content to have Darnold be their guy. I’m not expecting a sea change for the Panthers offense, but Mayfield should be a little more effective/consistent than Darnold on the whole. A change of scenery might be what he needs to turn the corner with his career.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Chiefs
Age: 28
Movement: Rising
Previous Rank WR62
Updated Rank WR54
There have been reports out of KC since June alleging that Valdes-Scantling had a strong onfield rapport with Patrick Mahomes, and now the Athletic’s Nate Taylor is reporting that he was the best receiver in KC’s offseason program. Tyreek Hill‘s departure has left a gaping hole in the KC receiving corps, one that is unlikely to be filled by one man, but MVS could flourish with consistent targets in one of the league’s most prolific offenses. He needs enough of a boost to take him into WR3 territory.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Chiefs
Age: 23
Movement: Falling
Previous Rank RB27
Updated Rank RB41
I’ve moved Ronald Jones up in the rankings throughout the offseason, but what I haven’t done is move Edwards-Helaire down accordingly. Edwards-Helaire doesn’t seem to be doing himself any favors in cementing a two-down role in KC, and Jerrick McKinnon could serve as reasonable competition in the passing game – He was KC’s most effective back throughout the playoffs last season. I just don’t see Edwards-Helaire warranting being in the same neighborhood as Leonard Fournette and James Conner. I’d rather under sell Edwards-Helaire, and end up getting value on him than suggest taking him too early.
