Late-Round Running Backs with Top 10 Upside
Back End RBs With Top 10 Upside
These backs are all outside of the top 25 backs going in drafts currently, but they all have league-winning potential and will outperform their current ADPs…
Rashaad Penny, Seahawks
Penny is getting no love as the likely successor to Chris Carson as the lead back in the Seattle offense, as he’s getting drafted behind the likes of Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Kareem Hunt. Those are decent backs, but they’re either mired in a committee or playing a backup role in their respective offense. Penny, if you’ll recall, was a top 5 back in weeks 14 – 18 in 2021, when he was given the reins to Seattle’s backfield. Rookie Kenneth Walker is in the mix for the Seahawks, but he is just that, a rookie, so there are no guarantees with him. We know what Penny is capable of, and if he performs at that level consistently, you’re going to get absurd value out of him, as he could very well end up a top-10 back in 2022.
Cordarrelle Patterson, Falcons
Patterson finished as the no.12 back in fantasy in 2021, and yet he’s being drafted as the 36th back right now. The Falcons have done little to add depth behind Patterson, besides draft rookie Tyler Allgeier and bring in old dog Damien Williams. While I suppose either could potentially supplant Patterson at some point in the season, there’s still too few offensive weapons in Atlanta to take Patterson out of double-digit touch contention on a weekly basis – If he’s not doing it on the ground, he’ll be doing it through the air. Yes, it’s his age 31 season, but Patterson got a late start on consistent carries in his career, so I’m not concerned. If we’re talking about upside, which we are, there are only a few guys outside of the top 25 ranked backs who can put up RB1 numbers without blinking, and Patterson’s one of them.
Rhamondre Stevenson, Patriots
With James White struggling to return to form after a season ending hip injury at age 30, Stevenson is setting himself up to usurp the 3rd down/pass-catching role from White in what could be a banner year for the 2nd year back. Stevenson’s rookie year was a success(700+ yards, 5 TDs), even with him playing behind Damien Harris much of the time, and with his passing game role to be enhanced, Stevenson is in line to become a PPR monster. In White’s most productive year, he put up over 1,100 yards and 12 TDs. Stevenson could match or better those numbers, as he’s more useful between the tackles and at the goal line. With no other true fantasy studs in pass-catching roles – DeVante Parker is debatable – for the Pats, Stevenson is a good bet to boom for his fantasy owners.

I’m picking 12th in a 12 man full point PPR. I want Deebo Samuel and I know if I don’t take him at 13 I won’t get him. Am I shooting myself in the foot if I take him that early?
I think you might be.
Thanks!
