Scouting Notes:
Daniels is somewhat of a mystery right now, as he missed the 2014 season for cheating an academic-dishonesty suspension. From his 2013 tape, we see a strong armed, thick-thighed receiver with vice grips for hands. He also has keen field-awareness, and knows where to put his feet to stay in bounds on sideline plays. Daniels isn’t fast by receiver standards, but he runs hard and isn’t afraid to take hits – he’s especially effective in screens and slants for this reason. Daniels could have used another season to work on taking the roundness out of his routes and getting the most out of his bulky frame in out-muscling defenders. As is, he plays a little small for his size. Daniels had a few crappy efforts and drops at the Combine during on-field drills, but if you check our performance grades – we have notes that say things like, “Glides” “Terrific” “Willie Mays-Style Catch”
Fantasy Outlook:
Likely a mid-to-late round pick, Daniels has a lot of ifs going into the draft considering he didn’t play last season, and his suspension brings up character concerns. He projects to be more of a possession guy once he lands somewhere with his pedestrian speed and reliable hands. Daniels stands to be a high volume receiver though, if he ends up paired with one of the more prolific QBs in the league. In a low output offense, he doesn’t have the dynamic ability that would allow him to produce at a high level.
