Fantasy Football Quick Hits – What We Learned in Week 9

Quick Hits: Week 9
The Trashman, Rosterwatch.com

A few brief thoughts on yesterday’s matchups:

– Despite a pedestrian stat line, Trent Richardson looked good in open space against the Texans. If the Colts can find a way to get him the ball outside the tackles more, he could salvage his season. Don’t give up on him.

TYHiltonPainting– T.Y. Hilton looked like the fastest man on the field every time he touched the ball last night. He also appeared to be the only Colts player who could catch the ball. He’s a WR1 from here on out.

– Case Keenum breathed some life into the Texans defense with his run and gun style of play. You have to be excited about the team’s receivers’ prospects. He might throw a ton of picks though.

– Daniel Johnson ran powerfully against the Colts. He may have a bright future in the league, and it may become his present sooner than you think.

tom brady– Tom Brady is back! Kudos to those of you who were able to acquire him in trade prior to Sunday’s massacre of the Steelers. Good luck trying to get him now.

–  WR Aaron Dobson finally broke out, and should continue to see a slew a targets. He only trailed Gronk in that category. Pick him up if he’s available in your league.

– Try not to go crazy over Jerricho Cotchery’s stat line, but he is definitely someone to watch. He’s been a sneaky start too often this season.

– Pray that QB Jason Campbell is available to play come week 11. He’s making the Browns look like a real football team.

– Jordan Cameron has become somewhat unpredictable fantasy wise. I’ve had to bite my nails and wait for garbage time yards too often in the last several games, and he basically had a goose egg against Baltimore. He’s still a great athlete, but the Browns QBs are looking elsewhere for production.

– I really don’t know what to say about Ray Rice and his offensive offensive line right now. You have to hold onto him, as you can’t get squat in trade for him currently, but he belongs on your bench until he proves otherwise.

– Mike James ran admirably against a stout Seattle run defense. We may not see Doug Martin on the field again this year. It would be almost criminal for the team to risk losing him indefinitely on a lost cause of a season.

– Should Percy Harvin sit again next week, Doug Baldwin is a fine addition to your starting roster.

nickfolespaintingcrop– Nick Foles has looked amazing in 2 of three starts this year. In a defensively challenged NFC east, he could be a fantasy monster.

– Riley Cooper is only worth starting as long as Foles is starting QB. That could be the rest of the season. Pick him up.

– Darren McFadden’s injury history reared its ugly head again. Ship him if you can. You can’t have that sort of unreliability during a fantasy playoff run.

– It was just as we thought in the Carolina backfield on Sunday, a complete mess. Jonathan Stewart did seem to look the best of the crew though.  DeAngelo Williams can’t be relied on any further.

– Poor Atlanta. They can’t get anything going these days. Opposing defenses are a must start until further notice.

– Water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink. Keenan Allen is the only reliable receiver on a team that loves to throw the ball. Strange.

– Alfred Morris is heating up. Even while Shanahan’s backfield swindles abound, he continues to make his hay.

– Don’t go chasing Darrel Young’s 3 TDs. That was Roy Helu two weeks ago, and what has he done since?

Chris Ivory – Chris Ivory has taken his place atop the Jets totem pole of backs. They would be foolish to rearrange things after a win against the Saints.

– Jimmy Graham is still the only safe bet for catches in New Orleans, despite whatever you’re trying to glean from Sunday’s game.

– I guess Chris Johnson heard Shonn Greene coming up behind him. Greene is still a good fantasy play, and he’ll probably be more consistent over the rest of the season.

– Kendall Wright needs to be owned in all leagues

– Zac Stacy is a beast. Barring injury, he could end up being a top 5 back the rest of the season.

– Christian Ponder is, surprisingly, the Vikings best chance at winning.

Dez Bryant– Dez Bryant is still going to be a big part of the Dallas gameplan going forward. It was a coincidence that this sub-par game followed his temper tantrum from last week.

– Kansas City is where fantasy players go to die. They are extremely efficient, and extremely frustrating for fantasy.

– Looks like C.J. Spiller is all better now. Might be time to move Fred Jackson while you can.
