The Garbage Grab: Week 9
The Garbage Grab: Week 9

Fantasy football can hurt. I was a Zac Stacy TD away from victory in one of my leagues last week, until a sprained ankle ruined my chances. I got off easy though, as Stacy probably won’t miss much time. Others aren’t as lucky, and that’s why I created the Garbage Grab. Here are your dumpster darlings for NFL week 9:
Doug Baldwin WR, Seattle Seahawks: Baldwin started the year off as an integral part of the Seattle offense, posting serviceable numbers for a six-game streatch, but he has disappeared in the last two games. With the recent loss of WR Sidney Rice, Baldwin gets a chance to redeem himself and produce on a grander scale, at least until Percy harvin returns. Baldwin has a juicy matchup this week with Tampa bay as the receiver not being covered my Darrelle Revis (who has not been good anyway). That role goes to Golden Tate.
Fozzy Whittaker RB, Cleveland Browns: The Browns have certainly made use of former Longhorn Whittaker since they acquired him in late September. Fozzy is now the main kick returner, and he gets more involved in the run game every week– he had seven touches against the Chiefs last Sunday. This pick is only for leagues that allow return yards, by the way.
Lavon Brazill WR, Indianapolis Colts– Brazill is a true wild card on the new look Colts offense — new only in the fact that it doesn’t involve Reggie Wayne anymore. The new No. 3 receiver, Brazill, drew our attention in the preseason with his impressive speed, but hasn’t done anything of consequence up to this point. That could all change this week in a tough but intriguing matchup with the Texans.
James Starks RB, Green Bay Packers: It is Starks and not Johnathan Franklin who has taken the role of backup to Eddie lacy in the Packers backfield. On a team that projects to be ahead a lot, Starks will get plenty of opportunities to change pace and run out clock, as seen against Minnesota last Sunday night. Look for him to continue devouring the scraps this week against a Bears team that is missing its starting QB.
David Nelson WR, New York Jets: Nelson has had back-to-back eighty yard games as a Jet, and looks everything the part of the possession receiver in New York. He’s dealing with a quad injury this week, but he should be good to play in a contest with the Saints that will require bountiful production in the passing game. The absence of Santonio Holmes for at least another week solidifies Nelson’s role.
Zachary Sudfeld TE, New York Jets: Jeff Cumberland is out with injury leaving Sudfeld to take over the Jets starting tight end role. Geno Smith lives off of the short game and Sudfeld will step in right where Cumberland left off as Smith’s safety blanket. Hopefully he has better hands.
Tiquan Underwood WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: In football, one man’s misfortune is another man’s chance to make one, and such is the case for Underwood. Mike Williams is gone for the year, and Underwood is the new No.2 receiver in the Buccaneers offense. That isn’t saying too much with a rookie QB at the helm of the sinking ship that is Greg Schiano’s Bucs, but Underwood has a shot to do some damage this week versus a Seattle team that will focus most of its efforts to stop Vincent Jackson.
