Fantasy Football: Week 9 Buy Low, Sell High
Buy Low / Sell High
The Trashman, Rosterwatch.com
I’ve been told my Sell-Highs have a been a little trashy over the last week but, but what do you expect from a guy called “The Trashman”? I’ve raised the bar a bit this week—a tiny bit—but either way, they’re still guys who you should trade while their values are up. Here are Week 9’s Buy Low / Sell High candidates
Buy Low
Roy Helu Jr. RB, Washington Redskins: Helu disappeared versus Denver Sunday after a 3 TD monster the week before, leaving owners scratching their heads in bewilderment. Such is the nature of a Shanahan running offense historically, as you never know what you’re going to get. Still, you’re going to get more than 25 all purpose yards from Helu on most weeks, and I’d rather have him than 95% of the backup running backs in the league. Facing a San Diego defense that is brutal on backs, the ‘Skins will want to get creative, and that means using Helu and the turbo offense.
Pierre Garcon WR, Washington Redskins: Garcon has been another underwhelming Redskin, but you have to look deeper than his pedestrian yardage totals to see the whole picture. Garcon is still being targeted around ten times a game, and that’s going to show up on the stat sheet sooner than later—we’re thinking this week. Make a move for him.
Charles Clay TE, Miami Dolphins: Clay is going to see a boost in targets now that possession receiver Brandon Gibson is done for the season. Couple that with his consistent end-zone presence, and you have a a TE1 for the remainder of the season who’s had two miserable games in as many weeks and many an owner looking to dump him. Miami has already had its bye.
Danny Amendola WR, New England Patriots: It’s hard to say how Amendola will perform in the near future, but his stock can’t really get any lower than it already is, so he’s worth a flier if you’re getting desperate for game changers. He’s going to see a ton of targets if he can stay moderately healthy and the New England offense gets back to clicking in the second half with its return to health.
Jason Witten TE, Dallas Cowboys: Witten is performing well below the standard we’re used to seeing from him, and fantasy owners have to be getting frustrated. Take advantage of that frustration and acquire a TE1 who has a cakewalk schedule after his Week 11 bye.
Sell High
Marvin Jones WR, Cincinnati Bengals: It’s only been a week out of Jones’ coming out party, and though it seems premature to ship him out, his value won’t be any higher than it is right now for the rest of the season. His 6.6-point game in Week 9 would have been another monster had Jermaine Gresham not gotten called for a questionable holding call that reversed Jones’ 50-yard TD scamper – make sure the owner you are looking to ship him to knows this.
Chris Johnson RB, Tennessee Titans: CJ2K has been playing (kinda) well recently, but with news that Shonn Greene is going to garner 12-15 carries upon his return, you have to move Johnson. Do it before unsuspecting owners are on to the Titans’ new game plan.
Andre Ellington RB, Arizona Cardinals: This is another case of moving a player while their value is at its peak. Ellington is talented, but he isn’t a three-down back, and Coach Arians has already stated that Mendenhall will get his starting duties back when he returns. It’s also the Cardinals’ bye week. Use Ellington to find someone who can help you win in week 9.
Mike Tolbert RB, Carolina Panthers: Tolbert has been eating up goal line carries for the Panthers as of late, but the return of Jonathan Stewart to the fold is going to muddle things for everyone in the Carolina backfield. It’s anyone’s guess as to who is going to get carries at any given point in football games from here on out. Move Tolbert while he’s hot.
Kenny Stills WR, New Orleans Saints: Anyone familiar with the Saints knows that this week’s Jerry Rice is next week’s nobody. Stills is going to have some good games like last Sunday’s monster vs. the Bills, but it’s going to be a coin flip as to when. At this juncture in the season, you can’t afford to deal with flashes in the pan. Reliability is key, and we haven’t seen that from Stills yet.
Chris Givens WR, St. Louis Rams: I use “High” with a grain of salt here. Givens topped out with 60 yards on five targets against Seattle on Monday, but maybe that’s enough to pique someone else’s interest. He’s still owned in almost 40% of leagues so I have to think that there’s some value to be had in trading him.
