With the news that Geno Smith has fired Jeff Nalley of Select Sports Group, mud has seemingly begun being slung regarding his former client. By who? Who knows. Probably by the same people who’ve been doing it all along—haters. They have more ammo now, that’s for sure.

He acted like a baby at the draft when not being selected in the first round, and left early. He then said he wasn’t coming back for the second day, then said he was coming back—and he did. The fact of the matter is that mud has been being slung regarding Geno Smith through the entire draft process.

It didn’t start with the Nolan Nawrocki piece that reminded so many of his damning piece regarding Cam Newton. (In fairness, we can point out that Cam Newton sulks like a baby with a pink towel at times as a pro.)

Media and scouts alike seemed to have a distate for all the guys who didn’t show up at the Senior Bowl, Geno Smith included. In fact, Geno Smith’s situation was worse than most others because he accepted his invite and then declined it later. New Senior Bowl Director Phil Savage is the trillest G you’ll ever see, and he made a real point in his first year at the National Scouting Weigh In of who wasn’t there for non-medical reasons.

He said to virtually every GM and scout in the NFL, “These are the guys who didn’t want to show up and compete.” Kenny Vaccaro, Manti Te’o, etc.

Now Geno Smith faces the New York media. Let’s put it on record that we are fans of Geno Smith here at RosterWatch and believe he had the most NFL-ready talent of any QB in this draft with EJ Manuel as a very close second.

But if he answers questions like he did to this reporter at Texas Tech, (as pointed out on Twitter by Eric Stoner) we are going to have a circus on our hands. Like we weren’t in for one anyway. Pack your bags Sal Pal, between the Jets and camping out on Tim Tebow’s lawn, you’ll be spending a lot of time on the road this offseason.
