It’s an unverified fact that players in contract years tend to work hard for at least the season leading into negotiations. It could very well be the case that players who just received a pay day may dial it down a bit. These prime players are coming off of new money, and have less incentive to go all out:

Jonathan Stewart, Panthers: Stewart is already hurt, and what motivation does he have to get back on the field any time soon. Well there’s love of the game for one, but should we be so naive? I don’t think he’ll rush back.

Michael Vick, Eagles: Pride is the only thing that will save Vick’s job. He’s already been paid this offseason. That pride should keep him on the field though. Nick Foles? really?

Victor Cruz, Giants: Cruz has a shiny new contract to play with, and celebrity has been calling his name for some time. he could lose focus this year. Rueben Randle is in the wings to excel, should that be the case.

Dwayne Bowe, Chiefs: Bowe is getting paid big time, but he shouldn’t have to work too hard to keep up his numbers. Alex Smith at QB, and few other valid options in the passing game should keep him from slipping.

Mike Wallace, Dolphins: See above. Wallace should stay afloat if for no other reason, because he is the only true number one in Miami.

Brian Hartline, Dolphins: Hartline got way overpaid it you ask me or anyone for that matter. This may the only situation in which a player actually works harder after getting paid, if only to justify the amount.

Danny Amendola, Patriots: Amendola has a nice new contract, but Amendola has Tom Brady tossing him footballs. That should remedy any lack of motivation issues. Wes who?
