Michael Bush to the Bears: Fantasy Implications
RB Michael Bush to the Bears: Fantasy Implications
Dorian “The Trashman” Colbert, RosterWatch.com
In a move that should bolster the spirits of Bears fans worldwide, Chicago recently signed former Raiders battering ram, Michael Bush to a $14 million over 4 years deal. This immediately puts current Bears RB Matt Forte in a very uncomfortable position, as he is still unsigned and losing leverage by the day. Not to worry, though, Bears fans. Coach Lovie Smith told our guys at the Combine that re-signing Matt Forte was Chicago’s #1 priority coming into 2012.
From a fantasy perspective, Bush comes out on top in any case, as he will most likely get the lion’s share of goal line and short yard carries even if Forte does sign. In the circumstance that Forte holds out, or in the greater likelihood that he gets hurt, Bush becomes the main man in Chicago. One’s immediate reaction would be to downgrade Forte considerably with this move, but he’s a dynamic player that can and often does score from well outside the goal line. He’ll probably drop on draft boards, but Forte could end up being a real value pick. I think both backs can thrive in Chicago.
