Throwing directly after rocket-armed (but not much else) QB#17 Logan Thomas, we were surprised to see the positive notes we had on QB#19- Keith Wenning, during Session 2 QB/WR drills in Indy:

“Nice ball on the fly route”
“Pretty good deep ball”
“Nice throw on post corner route”
“Another decent throw on post corner route”

After reviewing the film available at Draftbreakdown.com, it’s clear- these remarks from the Combine were no fluke. Keith Wenning has real arm talent. Power, touch, accuracy, and a quick release to boot. We are intrigued.

Of course, there are some question marks – What about the small school competition? Does he overthrow the deep ball too often? How much ironing does his footwork need? Can he play from under center?

The truth is – these are many of the questions we are seeing with a high percentage of rookie quarterback prospects in recent years. It’s a bi-product of the college game. Lacking pedigree, Wenning will likely be a Day 3 selection in May. Given Wenning’s size and arm talent – we believe that will be a calculated gamble worth taking for a team looking to build young quarterback depth.
