Scouting Notes: The NCAA leader in receptions in 2015, Sharpe has hands for days on his film — in fact, he made a catch every game day for UMass during his career there. It makes us a little less worried about the small size of his hands. He accelerates quickly in and out of his routes, and he can often shake defenders by selling those routes with excellent footwork. Sharpe’s precise route-running — and he can run most of them — is his bread and butter, as he’s not particularly athletic and has trouble with contested throws. He tested unexplosively at the combine and was among the bottom of all participants in Indy in our proprietary on-field testing grades. This lack of physicality is only exacerbated by his lean frame. Still, Sharpe was able to elude cornerbacks and even double-teams frequently, which is just more testament to his technical skill.
Fantasy Outlook: Sharpe joins a Titans team that is high on athletic talent but lacking on skilled route runners, which works to his advantage. From what we’ve seen out of Mariota, he loves inundating receivers who are dependable with the football, a la Delanie Walker. Should Sharpe gain that trust, he could be a very productive piece of the Titans’ offense, though probably not in Year 1. He’s worth a late-round flier in dynasty formats coming into the summer.
